Who: Draco and Various Slytherins (Invites went to all current Slytherins, 5th year and above.) Lucius and Narcissa welcome too, of course.
What: Snobbish Slytherin Get-Together
Where: Malfoy Manor
When: 8 PM
It was not a celebration, of course. Aside from the fact that the Death Eaters had been relocated to Grimmauld Place (and with them the last of the snatched victims they'd been hoarding beneath the floorboards, so Draco could stop imagining he heard them screaming and breathing in every corner of the house) there was precious little that had happened over the summer that had been good enough to warrant a dinner, much less a party. Keeping up appearances, though, had always been something Malfoy's excelled in. Besides, Draco had an assignment - Dumbledore had told him to play his part, and keeping up the facade was just as much his part as is was his Mother's or his Father's.
He just didn't plan to enjoy himself.
Still, there was something to be said for a party - it kept your mind off of other things. Watching the elves prepare the banquet room room, Draco could worry about lashing them instead of focus on how ridiculous it all seemed. How wrong it all seemed. How that nagging feeling in the pit of his stomach that this was all wrong, all happening again and just as badly, would neither explain itself or leave him alone. There was something, something vague and translucent in his memory, and it was getting weaker and weaker with every day that passed. He didn't understand it, but in the moments where he felt it strongly enough he knew that it was important to figure it out. Then he would lose the feeling of it again, and it wouldn't bother him for hours until it brought another headache on. There was something dark about those headaches that Draco didn't want to think too much on.
But with the elves out of the way and the music and food prepared and the guests expected to appear any moment, Draco couldn't help but let his mind wander to focusing on the night that was coming. He had a very different job keeping up appearances now with his Housemates than he had with the recent more frightening guests of the Manor. He rather thought he'd enjoy just getting to chat for a while with people who didn't bear The Dark Lord's mark burnt into their arms, even if he couldn't relax around his friends any more than he could with his brothers.
