Characters: Lisa Turpin & OPEN
Setting: Monday evening. Library. Just before dinner.
Summary: Lisa's reluctantly doing research in the library and while browsing the stacks gets a little startled.

Lisa Turpin wasn't in the best of moods. In fact she'd already deemed this week to be a major disappointment. Majority of the reasoning was because of the past weekend's holiday hitting her strangely harder than it had in the past. Valentines day had always been deemed a useless holiday whenever she were of the single marital status. Course, it never really bothered her much. This year though it seemed the lack of gifts and excess of younger years snogging out in the open only seemed to make the seventh year all the more bitter.

Though Lisa was rarely the sort to wallow in self pity. She shamelessly did so for most of the weekend. Locking herself away claiming she had a great deal to do in preparation for the N.E.W.T's. In reality she laid around the dorm with the curtains of her four poster closed indefinitely. There she ate a whole tin of heart-shaped holiday biscuits she'd bought for herself. And read three brand new romance novels complete from beginning to end that she'd purchased at the last Hogsmeade trip.

Today, it seemed that the holiday of love still left a bad after taste in the young woman's mouth. For the sake of seeming productive, however, she actually set out to do the work she'd claimed she'd been working on all weekend. The fact that she had to make a mandatory trip to the Library didn't brighten her spirits. Unlike the stereotypical Ravenclaw Lisa had always resented going to the library. She'd never been one to legitimize stereotypes and she'd always found the library to be such an annoying place work. People were always there and there were too many little interruptions that broke her focus. She honestly felt she could never get anything done there.

Either way...here she was browsing the stacks.

As she wandered around the endless collection of books Lisa was coming up with nothing. And the more she looked the more she wondered if the research she was doing was going to require her to ask for a pass to the restricted section. As she sighed impatiently and turned the corner at one of the shelves Lisa found herself being startled. As her heart felt as though it'd stopped she jolted a few steps backward and placed a hand on her chest. It took her a moment to comprehend who the someone was that jumped in front of her with their hands outstretched and a crooked sense of amusement as they let out a predatory growl.

Michael was beginning to think that perhaps there was some sort of disease making its way through the seventh year Ravenclaws. It seemed that this year they were all strangely absent. Certainly they would pop up now and then, but they never stayed for long. For that matter he’d thought he had something with Mandy, but she’d up and disappeared too and now whenever he did see her she always seemed to have something else to be doing. Perhaps he was just putting people off? He briefly wondered if perhaps he had some sort of hex on him and if so he’d definitely finger Weasley as the culprit.

So fine! If that was how they wanted to act then Michael would actually act like a Ravenclaw and worry about his studies. After all this was the year he had to take his NEWTs and he was certainly determined that he was going to do well on them. He’d done rather well on his OWLs in fifth year and he had every plan on doing well this year too. It wasn’t like this was the end of his schooling, so he needed to keep himself in good habits when it came to studying. He had every plan of going to a muggle university when he got done with Hogwarts. With the way things were now he was quite certain that keeping every avenue available to him open.

Eventually though the studying got to him and Michael slammed the book shut with a sigh. He startled when Madame Pince shushed him loudly and he chuckled sheepishly at her angry glare. He was actually surprised that she didn’t come over and kick him out for being too rough with her precious books. Perhaps she knew what year each of them were in and she made concessions for those with coming tests? He really didn’t care if it meant he got off with what he did. He wasn’t going to push his luck by leaving the books on the table though, so he gathered them all up and set into the stacks to put them away.

He was nearly done in the stacks when he noticed Lisa and his earlier annoyance at all the missing seventh years seemed to evaporate. Lisa was one of his good friends, most of the seventh years were, and he couldn’t honestly stay mad at them for long. And since he was done and she appeared frustrated he decided that he would amuse himself and perhaps get her to lighten up. He snuck closer to her location and stopped, realizing she’d be coming around the corner in a moment. He smirked and prepared himself, jumping in front of Lisa before she finished coming around the corner, his hands coming up in a claw like motion as he pulled his lips back in a fake snarl. It was hard not to laugh and to help stop himself he growled predatorily at her and faked a swipe of his “claw” at her.

“Are you daring to enter my area in such a foul mood?”

Though initially and genuinely startled Lisa wasn't above laughing at herself. Poor mood or not acknowledging when one was being a bit too serious was a virtue, right? Well, either way the fact that she felt stupid enough to fall for the situation seemed to pull her a little farther from her sour mood.

When she realized it was Michael causing her hair to stand on end she exhaled in relief and she tried to fake her agitation - an untamed chuckle present. "You're such a prat," she expressed as her hand raised as though to mimic the motion of backhanding him. She didn't actually hit him, of course, and instead continued the turn of the shelf.

"And I'm not in a foul mood," she lied trying to mask a natural pout. "You're smelling someone else." She walked around him and went to browse the next row of books. Her attention span, however, was distracted. Making a sudden connection she asked, "Is this where you've been hiding lately?"

Lisa had noticed that Michael had been missing as of late. Course, she wasn't exactly looking for company the last few days....alright, weeks. But, it wasn't like she hadn't spent the occasional evening in the common room. And if memory served correctly she didn't see him around there much. She left out the logical bit about how she was usually occupied with something else and not exactly paying attention to who was around her. As far as Lisa was concerned....it was ... everyone else who'd been absent.

“Here I am trying to get you in better spirits and you call me names,” Mike fake huffed, pulling his hands back toward him as he took a quick step back. He was rather certain that Lisa wouldn’t really hit him, but it was best to be completely positive when it came to such things. He watched as Lisa continued with what she was doing.

He really didn’t believe her though, and it showed on his face, when she said she wasn’t in a foul mood. “Uh-huh, sure you aren’t.” The word sure was dragged out sarcastically as Mike rolled his eyes and turned on his heel to follow her sharply. Her quick change of subject caused him to falter though and he stopped, head tilting to the side briefly. “Oh. You mean the last week or so? Yeah.”

There was a large temptation to point out that she had been missing as well. But doing that would mean pointing out all the other Ravenclaws that had been absent and that would have brought him back to his little theories and he wasn’t really wanting to revisit them just yet. He actually felt a little bitter about some of them, especially the ones concerning Mandy. He’d pushed his bad mood away when he saw Lisa though and he was determined to keep it away for now. She was going to be the only one in a foul mood (not that he was going to let it last).

“I’ve been doing the ‘typical’ Ravenclaw thing and studying here. The NEWTs are going to be on us soon and it’d rather suck if I wasn’t ready.” Actually he thought it would be rather crappy if anyone wasn’t ready for them. He was sure that there were going to be people that weren’t. “Plus I want to keep up good study habits and the like. Where have you been hiding?”
