The librarian started to retreat to her desk, and Kevin gave Felix a "wait here a second" look before following her over.
"Madam Pince, I almost forgot," he called as he pulled the candy canes from his back pocket. "I've got a couple of these leftover from holidays and I know how you like them." Kevin grinned as he offered the sweets. "One of them's broken, sorry about that."
Pince looked at him sideways and fought a thin smile as she took the proffered candy.
"Mr. Entwhistle, I would appreciate if your attempts to shield your fellow students from me were more subtle in the future," the librarian deadpanned. "And for your information, I much prefer Disobedience to Alexander Beetle," she added with a smirk.
Kevin smiled. He knew he could count on Madam Pince.
"James James Morrison Morrison Weatherby George Dupree..." Kevin chanted.
"Took great care of his mother, though he was only three," Pince finished, returning to her desk.
Kevin doubled back and took his seat again, gesturing for Felix to join him at the table.
