Felix looked to Kevin in a questioning fashion, having no idea why he was going on about beetles and their names, and who named one Alexander? Felix didn't know anyone who kept insects in boxes. Perhaps it was a poem by the author the two liked. It certainly rhymed. At the wink and grin, Felix felt a tentative grin curve the corners of his lips upwards, though he repressed a full blown smile as to not appear cheeky to the librarian.
At Kevin's question of whether nor he'd been working on his work, he gave an emphatic nod of his head. "Yes ma'am. I was working on my independent study for charms. I wanted to see how fully I could animate an inanimate object. I knew I could make it move but I wasn't sure if I could do that and make it have voice as well. You see, I really wanted to test it's limits, and that's where I messed up and for some reason it just screeched instead of doing what it should have." Felix paused to take a breath. He would have continued but the librarian held her hand up for silence.
It was very possible that she knew of his penchant to study charms, or rather would have supposed it considering his family's legacy so the story sounded like a valid one. Even if it was mostly true. Or she had been suitably softened by Kevin. Felix didn't particularly care which because she wasn't looking at him so terribly now.
"From now on keep any practical work to be done to a more suitable location, and theory to the library. Understood?" Her tone brooked no argument, so Felix's nod was probably unnecessary.
