Tonks was not the least bit vindictive toward her students; if anything, she was far more easy-going than she ought to have been. But if they weren't listening to her teach and instead wasting class time gossiping, then their marks wouldn't be as high as they might otherwise have been. She looked back, giving him a friendly smile.
Tonks shrugged. "I aired it publicly because this is going to be public no matter what I do. I'm showing. I can't pretend it isn't happening anymore, and anyone who sees me knows I'm unmarried and expecting. Rather than let the rumours run rampant, I decided to clear the air and make sure any other girl who might be in this situation in the future knows she has a choice, that she isn't stuck with someone who doesn't treat her well just because of a baby. We're supposed to be role models, aren't we?"
He was being so casually affectionate that in a way it startled her. It had been ages since someone hadn't treated her with kid gloves. "I love these students, as bone-headed as they might be. I made my bed, and now I've got to lie in it. I wish things were easier, but we don't always get that chance, do we? So we make the most of what we have, and I am. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about any of this, but I do know I'm going to have a little boy in a few months, and no matter what happens, he's going to be brilliant. So that's the silver lining."
