Married for six months now!
Who: Bill and Fleur Weasley
When: Monday, evening
Where: Shell Cottage
What: 6-month wedding anniversary
Rating: TBD...likely a bit of snogging
Open/Closed: Closed

Flipping closed his journal, Bill smiled to himself as he went back to the work on his desk. It'd been exactly six months since he and Fleur wed on the grounds of his family's home; a day that seemed ages ago now. Despite the attack during the reception, the day still remained in Bill's mind as an incredibly happy one, and a bright spot in the increasingly dark months that followed.

Pushing some files aside, he stretched widely and glanced towards the door. Perhaps he could managed to sneak off early....
Carefully tucking his jacket under his arm, Bill crept to his office door and peered down the hallway. Coast clear! Tugging his hat and mittens on, he slipped out a back door along the side of Gringotts and into the crisp February air.

With Valentine's Day approaching, the windows of the gift shoppes were filled with fluttering cupids and flashing hearts as he strolled with hands tucked in his coat pockets, scanning the stores until a floral display caught his eye. He selected a bouquet of yellow roses...nothing too flashy or heart-covered. Flowers in hand, he bought a bottle of wine at the mart down the way and then glanced at his watch. Nearly six. With a turn of his heel, he Apparated back to Shell Cottage and ducked inside, unraveling his scarf.

"Fleur?" he called.

As Bill spoke and began preparing the wine, Fleur had accompanied him to the kitchen. She never let flowers sit without a vase for long, and tonight would be no different. The wine was very good indeed, Fleur decided after a sip. She set the glass down and went to work trimming the flowers and filling a vase with water. It was a quick job that allowed her to feel productive while she listened, and also gave a her a way to hide the faces she made while Bill griped about Hobnock.

That was one thing she'd never quite grown to like about Gringotts - though she loved the work, Fleur still found the goblins difficult to be any more than coolly polite towards. Though she suspected they wouldn't have cared. The roses satisfactorily arranged, she inhaled the scent briefly before turning around to face Bill, leaning against the counter.

She took up the wine again and indulged in another sip, shrugging. "You know I do not mind. I find them very difficult as well, although I do not have to deal with them as directly as you do." A pot of something was simmering on the stove top. "I only started making something to eat a while before you arrived. It may be a while yet."

"Whatever it is, it smells good," he said with a grin, moving to her side and tucking an arm around her. "It isn't that I dislike the goblins, it's just...well, it's frustrating, and I know you know that."

Planting a kiss on her cheek, he released her and went about preparing a salad to go along with their meal. Setting the carrots chopping, he started washing the lettuce in the sink.

"What do you think about maybe having Hestia and Tonks and Charlie over soon? We could all do with a bit of fun, Tonks especially if after what I've read. Have you talked to her at all? I thought about going to try to find Remus but it's not really my business."

"Curry, with scallops, and snapper," Fleur answered as she moved over to the stove and lifted the lid with her free hand to peer inside. It would be time to add the fish soon, but not quite yet. Before marrying Bill, Fleur hadn't had much of a taste for spicy foods. Lately she had found herself developing a fondness for it. "There is some rice, too. Jasmine, I think."

Since there was still a ways to go before she had to attend to the main dish, Fleur joined Bill with the salad fixings and started some mushrooms as well.

"That would be fun," she said, nodding. She had read what Tonks had written, but hadn't known what to say. In a way, she feared saying something insulting. "I did read what happened. It is horrible...I can not believe he would do such a thing to her. I have not said anything to her yet, though. I should have."

"I'm a little confused as to the details," he confessed. "I haven't said anything to her either. He's usually so...I don't know...reliable? It all seems a bit off."

He scooped up a handful of mushrooms from Fleur and deposited them into the salad.

"Anyway, I haven't seen Char in ages, and it's due time. I wish I could get in touch with Ron more, too. We haven't talked about it, but I know my mum and dad are a mess about this whole thing. I guess they're proud of us all taking part in this, but I'm sure they also wish we were all safe and hidden away."

Adding the carrots to the shredded lettuce, he declared the salad complete and set it in the ice box.

"I've been thinking about that," he said. "Having kids. I mean, not now, not with the War, but eventually. But part of me thinks that I've seen two wars already in my lifetime, and I don't want a child to have to face that. I don't really remember the first one, other than my parents talking about it. I guess it's an inevitable part of life though; of our world."

Fleur's eyebrows raised when Bill brought up the subject of starting a family. It was not something she'd been prepared to discuss, especially not tonight. They'd talked about it briefly, casually. Usually in relation to something else. But it hadn't been something they'd dwelt on yet. Something about Bill's tone now indicated to her that perhaps it was time to discuss it with more gravity than before.

"Yes," she said shortly. Another sip of wine before continuing. "It would seem it is." Fleur didn't remember the first war, either - most of it had happened before she was even born, and that she did live through wasn't directly affecting France. "Children though...I think they adapt better to such things than adults do, sometimes. Not that it makes it the best idea to want to have children during these times. Especially since we are so involved. But you now I would love for us to have a family..."

She trailed off. It didn't seem quite the time to bring up, as she had a few times before, how she didn't feel ready to do something like that anyway. Fleur may have been an adult, but she was, and often still felt, very young. The idea of carrying a child, while she wanted children one day, rather frightened her.

He saw the slight rise of her eyebrows and shook his head.

"I don't mean now, for sure," he said, planting a kiss on the top of her head. "In a few years. I just worry about this thing dragging on until there's nothing left."

He swirled his wine glass idly and took a sip.

"Sorry, I just get thinking about these things and I can't stop. It's the whole 'what-if' game. I worry about Ron, and Harry and Hermione. I know we're young, but they...they're like, kids. It's just hard...you know."

He smiled.

"I guess that comes with having six younger siblings...you have six extra people to worry about. I envy you and Gabrielle sometimes."

"Anyway," he sighed, setting his empty wine glass down on the counter. "Now I'm a bit tipsy and I'm rambling on about nonsense. Distract me."

He threaded his fingers through hers, grinning.

Stealing a glance at the pot of curry, Fleur gave Bill an understanding look when he brought up his own family. It was only right, that he should have those concerns. True, it wasn't something she quite related to. Although even with just one younger sibling, especially one she loved as fiercely as she did Gabrielle, Fleur had experienced thoughts and worries of a similar nature.

Glad of a subject change, though, she smirked as she felt his fingers brush against her palm as he wove them through hers.

"Tipsy, already?" she replied, a kittenish tone evident in her voice. "Here I thought you could take more than that."

Shaking her head gently in mock disappointment, Fleur stepped nearer to Bill and brought her free hand to the back of his neck, stretching her fingers idly through his hair.

He closed his eyes, leaning into her touch.

"I said a bit tipsy," he drawled as her fingers brushed his hair. "I drank it fast."

Tipping his head towards her, he kissed her tenderly, leaning his forehead against hers.

"Curry should nearly be done, right?" he asked. "Time to add the fish in?"

He tucked his head against her neck and kissed under her ear.

"Let's eat fast," he said, teasingly, laughing softly into her hair.

Nodding against the feel of his lips at her neck, Fleur extracted her other hand from his and wrapped it around his waist loosely, trailing her thumb along his back. He smelt a bit of the bank, she thought, although it wasn't a bad thing. It was familiar. She smiled, pressing her face into his shoulder warmly.

"After all that hard work?" she asked, her voice still teasing. "I fully intend to spend at least an hour enjoying it. Possibly even several."

Fleur moved her hand from his hair and wrapped her arm around him, mirroring the other, pulling him closer. "And then of course we have to have dessert." She giggled, a sound one didn't often hear from her. Another kiss, this one along his jaw.

He laughed low.

"And what, might I ask, is for dessert? Or is it a surprise?" he teased back, holding her waist and bumping his nose against hers.

"We better finish up this food, then," he said, sliding his arms free with a wicked grin. "I'll set the table?"

He grabbed two plates and utensils, spreading them out on place-mats as he left Fleur to finish the curry. Setting the salad on the table with some dressing, he turned back to his wife.

"Nearly ready?"

"Almost," she answered, her back to him as she looked down at the contents of the pot. With a smooth movement, Fleur moved the fish from the pan she'd used earlier into the pot. "A few minutes at most."

This was the first time she'd tried to make this particular recipe, and she hoped that it would be successful. It certainly smelled like a success - the spicy aroma wafted from the stove was making her mouth water.

Fleur took another sip of the wine, then stepped back and returned to the dining room to join Bill in setting the table. She saw that he'd basically taken care of it. Instead, she grabbed the vase of roses and placed it in the center.

"Oh, dessert. It is tira misu," She leaned against the door frame. "Not home made. From that bakery we liked a few months ago."

"And here I thought that dessert was a metaphor," he joked, taking the two plates to the stove and spooning out the curry. "This smells amazing!"

Pouring himself another glass of wine at the table, he sat down to the meal, admiring the roses on the table.

"Perfect," he declared. "Shall I have the first taste, or you?"

Fleur topped off her own glass before sitting, and lifted her chin with a proud little smile.

"It does smell good," she agreed, toying with her fork and tapping it against the side of her plate, enjoying the tinny clink it made. "Well...I have already been tasting it as I cooked. So I think it is fair that you have the first official taste."

Cooking this had been an interesting process, seeing just how much the different flavors would meld over the course of the recipe. She had made it a bit spicier than usual, as an experiment. Stabbing at a scallop, Fleur raised it halfway to her mouth and paused, eying Bill playfully. "Before I change my mind!"

He speared a piece of snapper and popped it in his mouth. A slow, satisfied grin spread across his face as he chewed, and he released a puff of hot steam.

"Spicy," he said between chews. "But delicious. Well done! Bit adventurous for you; this much spice. I like it. I'll take you to Egypt someday and you can try all the food there. Takes a bit of getting used to, but it's really good."

He sipped his wine and ate the meal quickly. He hadn't realized how famished he was until a plate of delicious food was in front of him!

When he was done, he sat patiently, waiting for Fleur to finish, chatting idly about work and friends.

"I'll clear your plate, if you'd like," he offered when she finished. "If you want to get the dessert!"

"Thank you," she said, pushing back from the table and handing the plate off. Halfway to the ice box, Fleur looked over her shoulder and said offhandedly, "You know, we could wait a little while for dessert. Let dinner settle."

She quirked an eyebrow. "We could bring the wine out and sit in the living room for a little while. Cleanse the palate?"

Though she was looking forward to the tira misu - that bakery really had proven to be fantastic - Fleur felt a stronger desire to be near Bill right now. It was something she couldn't do sitting at the dining room table with him.

"I think that's a great idea," he said, depositing the plates in the sink and setting them scrubbing with a cleaning charm.

With his wine glass in hand, he settled on the sofa in the living room with Fleur at his side. Leaving the glass on the coffee table, he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close, tucking her legs over his.

"Happy anniversary," he said, tilting his head and kissing her deeply.

Fleur responded by deepening the kiss slightly, one hand almost automatically going to his hair again. Having often been told growing up that her hair was lovely, and then to have that notion reinforced during the few brief romances of her teenage years, Fleur sometimes thought that it was funny how she'd ended up with a man whose hair she so enjoyed running her fingers through. The familiar warmth of his body made her feel a little thrill, and she thought it reminded her of how she'd felt the first time she'd spoken to him.

After a while she relaxed into his embrace, leaning her head against his chest, still playing with the hair at the back of his neck.

"I am glad that we did not wait until the war ended, you know?"

"Mhm," he agreed, stroking a hand along her cheek affectionately. "It was just getting started, really. But it's better, having you with me."

It was so true. He hadn't ever really imagined feeling so perfect with anyone before meeting Fleur. In fact, he hadn't had any serious relationships before her. Sure, her Veela charm had been initially enchanting, but the more he grew to know her, the more he'd loved her for her quick wit and kind heart. Some of his family members still didn't quite get the attraction, hinting they'd prefer him with a good English girl like Tonks or Hesta. Regardless, he loved her and that would have to be enough for his family.

"I'm glad we found this place, too," he said, glancing towards the window. "I like being by the sea. I don't think I'd be able to sleep anywhere else now that I'm used to hearing it at night."

Fleur recalled that when she'd first told her family about her plans to marry, that had been one of their biggest worries - she was barely even twenty years old, and ready to marry a man she'd been dating for only a year, and in the midst of a war? Their concerns were understandable, but she knew they also understood that once she'd set her heart to something, she wasn't liable to surrender it easily. She, too, thought it was easier to go through something like this with someone you love at your side.

"It is something one gets used to very quickly," Fleur nodded, following his gaze to the window. On the right nights you could look out and see the moon mirrored clearly on the water's surface. "When we visit Toulon to see my family next you will see it is similar. Warmer there, though."

One thing Fleur was still adjusting to was the cooler weather of England. She'd grown up in abundant sunshine and a mild climate year round. "I know it may be a while. There is a lot we are needed for here."

"We'll go in the summer," he said confidently, stroking her hair. "When this all blows over. It'll be great."

He'd tried to imagine what the French coast looked like, and the old city with its harbor and fountains and beautiful buildings. He'd never been to much of any place except England and Egypt, except for occasional Floo trips to Germany and Russia for bank business.

"Are you happy here? In England, I mean?" he asked. "I suppose I've been insensitive to never ask. Do you miss France? Maybe someday we can move there for a few years."

Fleur waited to answer, allowing her eyes to flutter shut and a smile to spread across her face.

"I am. And it has not been insensitive - if I were unhappy I would have said something." she finally said. She sounded very certain. "I do miss France, of course, sometimes. But I feel more at home here."

It had been a big change for Fleur to move to England a few years ago, but it had slowly grown on her. Hogwarts having been her only experience of the country before then, she had been pleasantly surprised for the most part. Although it hadn't quite felt like her home until she'd married Bill and moved into the cottage.

"It might be fun to live there for a while again, some day. We will see what happens. I would like to just travel."

"Me too," he said, toying with her hand in his. "I'd like to show you Egypt. I miss it there. And it's the same. I'm more at home here, but that was my home too."

"If we do ever move there, you have to start teaching me more French. I'm not very good. I just know your pet names, really."

She smirked knowingly. "That would only be fair. After all, my English only began to be much better with your help..."

When they'd first begun to see each other, Fleur resorte to telling people that Bill was only "teaching her English". While that had been entirely true, at times it had only served to explain part of what they were up to. She pulled his arms around her now, stroking the palm of one of his hands before bringing it to her lips fleetingly.

"That settles it," Fleur said with conviction as she gave his hand a little squeeze. "We must live abroad, someday, if only for a while. Egypt, and France, and anywhere else we want. And eat all of the local food, and learn the languages."

Fleur tilted her head up, leaning closer. Sitting back after enjoying the brush of his lips against her neck, she looked a Bill with a satisfied little smile. Talking here had been nice, it was true, but he had a point.

"Ohh, that sounds like a perfect plan," she replied, returning his wink with a mischievous look and pecking him on the lips. She slid off of his lap and smoothly rose from the sofa. "I think we will both find that it is the best part."
