Fleur had had an early day at the bank and, working only part-time, had arrived home shortly after three that afternoon. There was always something very pleasant about arriving home after being away for a time. The familiar smells and sights, and the occasional thought, as if for the first time, that this was her home. It was safe and the personal touches here and there made it hard to believe that at any time if could become a safe harbor for a practical stranger.
Today, though, she wasn't going to think about that, or the fact that the world seemed to be falling apart for people. Now seemed like a time to take any opportunity for a celebration. In part, it was why she'd thought it might be appropriate to make a bigger deal of six months than she may have otherwise At least that was how she'd rationalized it to herself. There was no doubt about how deeply she loved her husband, but Fleur had never been keen on being silly about these things.
She'd spent the ensuing hours running an errand or two and then returning to set things in order. When she heard Bill's arrival, a small smile spread across her face and she sauntered out of the kitchen.
"Welcome home," Fleur said, making her way up to Bill and placing a small kiss on his lips. The flowers in his hand made her grin more broadly. "These are lovely."
