This was something Minerva had been considering since well before the holidays. Since Albus died, perhaps, she had thought it would be eventually necessary. Still, it was a long process. She wasn't concerned about the legality, not with the Ministry in its current state, but selecting the right students for the attempt was expressly important. Did she include Slytherin students? Albus would have never let that be a consideration. Did she level the ages, the genders? It would be as fair as she could possibly make it. Then there were other things to consider - their families, the dangers they would face, what would happen if they did not have the strictest sense of the confidentiality of this project.

There was only so long that she could wait and ponder, however. If it was to be done, it would need to be begun now. So, Minerva McGonagall waited in the office which still did not feel entirely like her own. She waited for eight students whom she was about to turn into criminals.
