Orsino had decided by noon that he should just give up on the cooking thing entirely for the day. Completing a successful meal was just not in his cards. It had occurred to him that perhaps he'd done something to incur this misfortune, especially since he thought he was fairly decent in the kitchen. No gourmet chef, and not as good or enthusiastic as Merton. Still, he'd never been as much of a disaster as he felt today. He'd left the message in his journal on a whim, half-jokingly (although the part about missing his bandmates was entirely true, and much more candid than usual), but as the sun began to set and the time for dinner rolled around, the idea seemed much better.

He apparated to the house in Ireland, arriving a few steps from the door and thinking that it looked much different in the waning light than it had last time he'd visited at full dark. Wondering belatedly if he ought to have brought something, Orsino got his bearings and knocked. Takeaway would be a very nice change from eating cereal all day.

Merton being good in a kitchen was debatable. It was true that when his experiments succeeded, they were actually very good. But it was equally true that he was just as likely, if not more, to set something on fire, ruin perfectly good cookware, or create something that bubbled menacingly, as if it might explode at any moment.

But he did like to try, and Gideon and Heath both knew enough to frequently hover with fire extinguishing spells.

He had recently murdered a pot though, so he was taking the day off and wheedling Gideon to get them takeaway. Which Merton could get himself perfectly well, but wasn't going to. Since takeaway tasted better when Gideon got it, he insisted.

He was currently lounged on the sofa, watching telly. Which wasn't unpredictable. He heard the door and waited to see if anyone else was going to get it, and then rolled to his feet, padding over barefoot to pull the door open, grinning when he saw Orsino. "You should just come in and not bother knocking," he said by way of greeting.

"Except then we'd probably think he was a crazed fan and we'd hex him. Or run away..." Because they never actually hexed the crazy fans who found them out, even if Heath sometimes thought they'd be completely justified.

"Hey, Thrusty. You don't look starved..." He'd been in his room, writing, but the knock at the door brought him out of it and he grinned when he saw his mate there, "Ignore anything that's still smoking. Today wasn't Merton's best experiment. Yours either I guess. You two should open a restaurant."

Gideon was sitting on the kitchen counter, on the phone with the local Italian diner, arguing with them about whether or not he wanted alfredo sauce and no, he didn't want the local special, because they put whiskey in the sauce and it was vile, he just wanted plain old regular sauce on the pasta, thanks. He nodded to Orsino as he came in though, waving the elbow that was currently attached to the hand holding the phone to his head as he checked off the list of items they'd decided to order. Good Italian was ridiculously hard to come by in Ireland, he'd found.

"That might be nice," Orsino said distractedly, walking into the room and helping himself to a seat on the sofa. "And every night we could burn the place down in a different way. I'm sure we'd have massive waiting lists...dinner and a show."

He put his feet on the coffee table, then thought better of it and settled for resting his right foot on the opposite knee. "So what's on the menu tonight?"

Merton heard Gideon arguing on the phone and grinned. "Things catch fire more easily when there's liquor in them," he informed them absently. Which was something he'd learned the hard way.

"It'd be expensive and people would run out screaming all the time because of the fire," Merton observed, plopping back onto the sofa next to Orsino. "Gid's ordering Italian. He yells when he orders." Which was probably half of why Merton liked to make him order. Gideon in a fuss over food was usually funny.

Heath disappeared into his room for a minute to put up his guitar, but when he came back it was to fall over the edge of the sofa, head landing in Merton's lap with his legs over the arm.

"That's because he likes yelling," Heath pointed out. "Makes him feel all manly. And you - " He directed that to Orsino, stretching one arm over his head and past Merton to poke the other man in the leg. "Said it was a matter of life and death. Bloody melodramatic, mate."

	"I do not like yelling. I just like yelling at you," Gideon said, leaning over the back of the couch to drop a cold beer on Heath's stomach, and then handing one to Merton and Orsino if they wanted them. "Food will be here in about thirty minutes." He ambled over to the overstuffed loveseat, and looked at the telly. "What the hell are we watching, Merton?" (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"Not melodramatic," Orsino said, smirking at Heath. "I just happen to take eating very seriously, and no desire to have bran flakes for dinner. Or I just wanted the company." He turned and batted his eyelashes before looking away with a short laugh.

The sudden appearance of a perfectly chilled beer at his disposal was a welcome turn of events, and Orsino thanked Gid before following his gaze to the television. "I second that question."

Merton took the beer and popped it open, taking a swig and then setting it on Heath's forehead playfully before leaning over him to set it on the table. He settled back again then, absently petting through Heath's hair. "It's about sharks. They have disposable teeth. And you can go down in cages to look at them. I want to do that," he told Gideon absently.

It was usually a fairly safe bet that if there was some kind of animal documentary on, Merton would find it, and then talk about it with varying levels of inaccuracy for a month afterward. "Do we have to pick up the food, or are they delivering it? Did you get that dessert thing with the stuff on it that I like?"

"Can they get at you in the cages?" Heath turned his attention to the telly for about two seconds before he took the cold beer off of his stomach and sat up properly beside Merton so he could drink it. "I'm not sure you can though, mate. They don't let vampires go down in those cages, though. Sharks and scenting blood or something, wouldn't want to make the thing sick."

Mostly, Heath just didn't want to get dragged to go and pet a shark, and that was generally where Merton's little obsessions lead if he didn't forget about them completely in the next few days.

	"No shark baiting. We'll save that for overeager fans who stalk us into dark corners or something." Gideon didn't even like swimming, much less the idea of being put under water in a cage where huge man-eating sharks could make attempts at snapping off your limbs. Orsino's eyebrows had slowly been creeping up his forehead; Merton certainly did have the strangest desires sometimes. He couldn't imagine why anyone would put themselves in that sort of situation. Deciding it unwise to press the subject further, Orsino turned his thoughts elsewhere.

"Dessert thing?" he blurted out, not even attempting to make the change of subject subtle. "It wasn't tira misu, was it?"

"I don't know. It was a thing. There was strawberries. Or maybe cherries," Merton answered vaguely. Gideon always figured out what he meant, or Heath did.

He looked at Gideon and pouted a little. "I like baby chickens too. But I want to go in a shark cage. Or one of those shark tunnel things." Merton's fascinations usually faded quickly, as he was easily distracted. But he tended to remember longer when he was told that he couldn't do something.

	"Is the shark in the tunnel with you? Because I don't know if you can swim that fast. Can you swim?" Heath could play along as long as he could figure out a way to distract him later.
