Julien didn't have much of a surprise for Alfie, but it was still a surprise nonetheless and he hoped that the other boy would like it. He knew things had to be as tough for the Hufflepuff as they were for him, knowing how close to his mother Alfie was and all, and with everything that was going on the surprise was as much a gift for him as it was for Alfie.
He hated the way he tended to retreat into books when things became too much for him, and his parents separation certainly counted as something he was ill equipped to deal with. In fact, it didn't seem like there was much he could deal with lately, but being with Alfie was one rare thing that he wanted to handle.
He smiled seeing the dark-haired kid looking so cosy with his cat on his chest and he made his way over to sit by Alfie's feet, not letting the Hufflepuff sit up. "Hi." he said, smiling and not kissing, not just yet. "Oh, surprise." he added, maybe too soon, but the sight of Alfie sitting there made him feel his gift was all the more important, and he handed the pendant over a little bashfully.
