Hermione knew that it must have been frustrating for Ginny, too. To be so close to everything that was going on and not allowed to be a part of it. Mrs Weasley sheltered her, her brothers sheltered her, Harry didn't want her anywhere near the battle that would have to rage. And Hermione wanted to tell her everything, but also wouldn't. It wasn't her fight, really, or it didn't have to be.
Still, she didn't want to shut her out either, and she smiled at the hug and hugged back, tired - exhausted looking, really - but happy enough to be with her friend.
"Oh, it's nothing. And I would never forget to get you something for your birthday..." She handed over the little box with the bracelet inside. "I just picked it up the last time I went to see my parents..." And if she faltered on that last word, or rushed past it, she covered it up well.
