Merton had returned from staying with Linda, but then he'd buggered off again to his parents, and from there he'd gone to London and wandered around for a day.
So he still hadn't been about all that much, really. But he'd been around enough to catch on to certain things. Mainly that neither Heath nor Gideon were exactly thrilled about the muggleborn thing. Neither was Merton, but he still didn't really get what it was all about. How was anyone supposed to have stolen magic, anyway? It's not like it was sitting out on a shelf and they shoved it in their pockets and ran off with it.
Merton was a bit used to things not making sense though. So he was trying not to worry about it all that much. It wasn't that difficult for him, since Merton was easily distracted.
He was a little worried too about the other thing he'd noticed. Namely Gideon coming out of Heath's room the other day looking all rumpled and sexed. Which wasn't that surprising. But it made Merton wonder if he was supposed to move out now. Leigh would have to find him a flat again.
He'd been in the kitchen, making eggs - which Merton was very good at, and only rarely set on fire - and came out with an egg sandwich and a beer. Because they didn't have anything else to drink. He stopped when he saw Heath and then held the plate out in offering. "Want half?" Merton asked.
It was the first time he'd seen one of them alone, so Merton added, almost in the same breath and without any segue to help Heath out about where it was coming from, "should I find a flat?"
