Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!1997: 12, !incomplete, alicia spinnet, fred weasley, george weasley, katie bell

Who: Katie Bell, Alicia Spinnet, Gred and Forge Weasley.
When: Tonightish?
Where: Starting at the girls' flat → WWW → Katie's parents.
What: Checking up on Katie's parents.
Rating: PG-13? Ongoing. Katie does, on occasion, like to curse.
Open/Closed: Open to just them. Unless we want some DEs to crash the party for more dramaz?

Katie was worried. She couldn't help it. She knew she was probably jumping the gun a little, but this was her parents and given everything that was going on, it seemed like a time to be a little extra paranoid.

It was probably a good thing Ali had insisted on accompanying her to check on them. Fred and George, too. Katie was just worried and stupid enough to go on her own, otherwise, and there was no telling what kind of trouble that could lead to. Besides, having her best friends along if she found anything would probably be a good thing.

She was standing in the living room, giving herself a silent pep talk as she waited for Ali so they could apparate to the twins' shop together. Safety in numbers, right? She was a little too stubborn and independent to admit it to herself, but she needed someone holding her hand through this, no matter what they found when they got there.

Since that damn article had been out Alicia had been freaking out, silently mostly, having mini panic attacks ever so often. She hoped Ryan would be fine, he was Adrian's child and that proved he was at least a halfblood but... she was adopted and she had no idea of where she came from. Halfblood? fullbood? muggleborn? She'd asked her mother and she had nothing, she could tell her nothing behind the name of the adoption agency and then Alicia would have to look into it herself. Which would have to wait. Her best friend needed her right now and for now that took precedent.

Ryan was safetly, she hoped, with her mother, fully warded and hopefully nothing would happen. She gave Katie a weak, tired smile as she entered instantly wrapping her best friend up in a hug, "lets go," she told her softly, pulling back though she took the other girls hand tightly in her own so they could apperate to the shop to fetch the boys.

While Alicia thought herself capable enough she was glad they were coming with them, she desperately wanted Katie's parents to be fine but it never hurt to take precautions. "You two ready?" She called as both women found solid ground, already steeling herself for whatever they may find.

George and Fred were waiting, George perched on the counter in Angelina's customary place. They didn't exactly look grim, but the twins were more subdued than they usually were. The edict didn't directly effect them, but it hung over everyone's head as proof of what was going on. Even the bits of brilliance they were helping Lee come up with, and their new shop wasn't enough to make things seem less dire, really.

George had a belt with loads of little pockets and various useful products - Weasley and otherwise - tucked inside, and his wand in his jeans pocket.

He hoped up when the girls came in, giving them a quick smile. "Yeah, think so. You all right? Ryan tucked away?"

"Oy, hey," Fred was dressed similarly, his coat lined with pockets filled just as full and his wand at easy reach. The last time they'd gone on an Order mission, George had nearly been killed. Hagrid and Moody had been killed. Fred didn't forget things like that.

But this was about Katie's family, and Katie had been their friend for ages. There hadn't even been a question about not going with her. So he flashed them both a smile, jumping over the counter once George was off of it and going to give each of them a hug before he turned to Katie to ask, "How do you want to go?"

Katie, herself, was much more subdued than normal. She smiled at the twins in greeting, but it didn't reach her eyes and she didn't joke with them they way she normally would. She didn't have room in her head for teasing when she was so worried.

"They might be watching the floo, right?" she answered Fred's question with a thoughtful frown. Apparating straight in wouldn't be a good idea, either, just in case. Katie had to bite down on her lip before she could finish that thought, even if it wasn't out loud.

"There's a spot just outside the village." She pulled out a piece of parchment and sketched a rough map to illustrate. "I think the safest would be to apparate to that spot and walk in from there. Better than popping straight into the house, just in case..." She didn't finish the thought out loud, either. There was no point. They all knew what she meant. She hated the thought that she could be putting her friends in danger at all and she wanted to be smart about this.

Alicia gave each a hug in turn, smiling a little before stepping back once more. "He's with his dad," she told them softly, slightly the ignoring the other question not to be rude but simply because she didn't know how to answer. She wasn't ok, nothing about this was ok but she had to be strong and be there for her friend, Katie was all that mattered right then.

"That sounds like a good idea," Alicia agreed after a moment, hand finding Katie's again to give her a reassuring squeeze, she wanted to tell her friend it was going to be ok, that everything would be fine but she didn't have the heart. What if she promised just that and they weren't? Alicia pushed aside such thoughts; they were going to be fine, they had to be. "Least that way we can see the house and what's going on first."

[OOC: It's been changed that Ryan is now with his dad. Sorry!]

Uneasy circumstances or no, George was still George, and his face screwed up into its habitual, comical grimace at mention of Ryan's dad. Though at least he'd be safe enough there, so he didn't protest, or remind Alicia that Ryan's dad was a flaming arsehole.

He scanned the parchment Katie drew and nodded. "Yeah, looks good. Fredders or me go first, then you two, and then whichever of us didn't go first?" he suggested. Not that he didn't think the girls were capable, but if there was going to be trouble, George thought he and Fred should be in the thick of it first. He gave Katie's arm a squeeze. "They'll be fine, Kates. Probably just didn't get off an answer to you yet."

"Good plan," Fred said, and he leaned past Katie's shoulder to study the map, looking where he was supposed to be going. His other hand squeezed her shoulder, then went to squeeze Ali's. Auror in training or not, he and George were going in front and behind. They'd take the hexes first either way.

"I'll go first, then," He said, straightening and then looking at Goerge, pointing his wand at him. "I get lost, you come looking for me. None of this shit about not speaking to me because of a rule."

It was the last thing he said to his brother before he flashed them all a grin, and apparated away.

Katie wasn't exactly thrilled about Pucey, but she had her own stuff to worry about right now and she'd reached an unspoken agreement with Ali to tolerate the relationship even if she didn't like it. She thought her friend was foolish to trust a former Slytherin, but she wasn't going to push Ali away by pressing the issue continuously.

She opened her mouth to object to any of the others going first, but she knew that the twins wouldn't be dissuaded. They could really be quite chivalrous when they wanted to be, she knew, so she closed her mouth again and nodded. Both to the plan and the reassurances that everything would be alright.

She apparated out a second after Fred did, anxious to get this over with and trusting that the others would be right behind them.

Right then she was insanely glad that none of them brought it up; she understood where they came from, she got it but it didn't mean they were right to worry but then again she was glad they did worry, it just showed they cared.

There was no point in arguing so she didn't even bother, it didn't matter where she was so long as she was there and so long as they were altogether. Alicia checked that she had her want in easy reaching distance, just in case, before apparating to the chosen spot right beside Fred and Katie. Eyes quickly scanning the surrounding areas just in case.

George flipped Fred two fingers as his twin vanished. He'd stopped being mad about the One Rule bit ages ago, but that didn't mean he didn't still harp on it constantly. He wouldn't be George if he wasn't mellodramatic about stupid shite sometimes. Or most of the time.

He waited for the others to pop away, and then apparated in, ending up a few feet from Alicia and then crowding in close to the others, wand out just in case.

He didn't immediately see anything, looking around and then nodding to Katie. "All right, well lead the way, Katie."

This was ridiculous, tramping after one of their best friends to make sure her parents hadn't been murdered... If there was any justice in the current set of things, Percy would have to do this every bloody night until he figured out the right side of things.

Fred fell to the other side of the group than George did, so that they took up the flanks, and kept his wand out too. "They're probably fine," He said to Katie, as they started walking.

Right, then. Here they were. Everything in the village seemed perfectly normal and Katie tried to be comforted by that fact, though her wand was out in front of her, regardless, ready should anything happen.

She nodded again at Fred's reassurance, still mentally steeling herself for whatever they might find as they began the trek from the outskirts of the village to the home Katie had grown up in.

It was dark when they arrived and after a quick inspection of the grounds, Katie performed the needed charms to unlock the front door before quietly leading the others inside.

"Mum? Dad?" she called out, a quick Lumos lighting the way in front of her. Nothing. There was no sign of a struggle, but there was no sign of them, either. She wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing.

Without thought Alicia took up her place beside Katie and she tried not to worry; they'd be fine, they'd get there and they'd find John and Elizabeth sat in front of the TV having a cuppa. She kept telling herself that over and over again, a mantra which kept her steady as they made their way through the village she knew so well.

Alicia added her own Lumos spell, adding to the light as they entered the house and there was silence ringing around them. "Maybe they're in bed?" she suggested softly, hope ringing loudly in her words as she glanced towards Katie. "Mr and Mrs Bell?" Alicia called softly as she moved into the living room to find it empty, not at all filled with the noise of the TV and smell of tea or coffee and the bustle of a home.

The house was too quiet, and the boys made sure they were first and last in, but even coming in and letting the door close, it was like being wrapped up in quiet and not being able to breathe.

Fred hated it.

He moved with the girls into the front room, looking around. It looked like no one had been here in a while, but nothing looked like it had been torn apart, either. He figured that was a good sign.

It was so quiet. Katie tried to focus on how normal everything looked, otherwise. No signs of a struggle. No signs that someone had cleaned up a little too much, not that she really thought that was the DEs style. It was as though they had just gone on holiday and forgotten to leave word.

Slowly, she moved about the premises, looking for something, anything that would give her another clue. Finally, she let out a sigh.

"They're not here," she said quietly to no one in particular. It was better than some of the alternative scenarios that had flashed through her mind, but it would have been so much more comforting to find them sitting there having their tea or something.

"Maybe they've gone somewhere safe," Alicia suggested, hating that she had no idea how to comfort her friend. What did you say in times like this? There was no way she could comfort her friend, make her feel better when her family simply wasn't here and they had no idea where they were.

"It doesn't look like anything has happened though," she offered, worry in her eyes for the Bells. She hoped they were safe and fine, that they were just in hiding but she didn't know for sure. There were no struggles though, nothing that looked like they were in a fight.

"We'll check the rest of the house," Fred offered, but he thought Alicia was right - no one was here. Whether they'd gone somewhere safe or not, at least it was a good sign that it didn't look like anything had been disturbed.

Katie nodded, moving on her own to make her way through the house, though she knew that Ali had spent enough time here to know it almost as well as she did.

It was empty, though, just as they'd already figured out and she shook her head after a few moments.

"They're not here," she repeated, hoping that Ali was right, that they'd gone someplace safe and were perfectly alright.
