Who: Belinda Tatting and OPEN
What: It's Belinda's birthday, and she is going shopping.
Where: Diagon Alley, of course
When: Mid-afternoon, the 28th of December.

It was cold, as it generally was in December, when Belinda stepped out of her Aunt Pandora's shop. It was her birthday, and already loaded with a package of excellent gifts from her aunt, she was going to go shopping. Walking along Diagon Alley alone was not exactly the safest idea, but then, she was of age now, so at very least, she could protect herself.

Realising that she didn't have to suffer the cold despite the warm clothes she wore, Belinda cast a warming charm on herself and beamed. Of age magic was a wonderful thing. She may have been a touch over excited about that, though, as she almost walked straight into someone else in the street.

Melinda wasn't really worried as she walked along Diagon Alley. It was perfectly safe for the right sort, after all, and her breeding and loyalties, she was sure, would ensure her personal safety. After all, she knew her proper place in the world. It wasn't like she was likely to be subject to a Death Eater attack. Perhaps that was an overly foolish attitude to take, but it was classic Melinda.

A rare warm smile moved over her face as she recognized her friend from a few feet away. This was a lovely surprise, indeed, and she moved quickly to greet her roommate and dear friend, glad to have this chance meeting with one of the few people she genuinely enjoyed spending time with.

"Belinda, dear, how are you?" she asked her once she was close enough to speak to her friend in a normal tone and still be heard. It appeared that Belinda's attentions may have been elsewhere, as they almost collided, but Melinda trusted her friend had a good reason for not paying attention to her surroundings, so she could be somewhat forgiving of the near collision.

Belinda was, of course, delighted to see her friend, a surprise completely befitting a lovely day as it was. She may have almost collided, but she maintained her poise, and it wasn't anyone who would hex her or anything.

"Melinda! It is a delight!" she exclaimed, before lowering her voice to a normal level. "I am sorry, but the sheer joy of performing of age magic was a touch distracting," she said, smiling guiltily, as Belinda supposed one should when one wasn't doing their very best to be under perfect control.

Her smile brightened though, as she answered Melinda's question. "I have been doing quite well myself, especially as it is my birthday. Yourself?"

Of course, it was important to maintain one's poise, and Melinda would expect nothing less from her closest friend. A lesser person might have been hexed for such inattention, but Melinda was bound to be more forgiven of such with someone she deemed her equal.

"I would expect it should be a good day. Did you receive my owl? Are you enjoying your birthday so far? You must let me buy you a butterbeer to celebrate." It could hardly be called gushing, but Melinda's demeanor was warmer than it would be with almost anyone else. It was evident that she was pleased to run into Belinda at this moment, no matter how properly even she kept her tone. He expression, at least, betrayed her excitement.

Belinda knew that behind Melinda's prefect composure, she was excited - it was a similar principle to the one she generally used, although the excitement of being of age meant that Belinda wasn't doing her best to maintain composed.

"I did receive your owl, thank you. My birthday has been lovely. I was just in to visit my Aunt Pandora who gave me the most lovely gifts," she said, gesturing at the bag on her arm, "and was going to continue shopping, but I think such a fortunate meeting deserves some celebration." Belinda smiled brightly.

"You are very welcome. I was hoping you would like it!" Melinda wasn't being obnoxious, but it was evident she was excited, pleased to be in the company of one of her absolute closest friends. She didn't fault Belinda at all for their near collision, certain that she would be similarly affected were it her seventeenth birthday.

"Oh, you will have to show me. Your aunt has the most amazing taste. I'm certain her gifts are absolutely lovely."

This was definitely a felicitous encounter. She hadn't seen nearly enough of her friend over the break. It was fantastic to have an opportunity to catch up now.
