Who: Alfie and Drew
What: Talking
Where: 6th Year Hufflepuff Boy's Dorm
When: Thursday night after this.
Warnings: TBA

Alfie tramped up the stairs to the dorm feeling a little bit like he was about to be hanged or something. He figured Drew would be angry with him for not telling him about it first, maybe. He also knew the other boy's moods, and how hyper and loud he could be, and he didn't know if he really could deal with that sort of reaction to what he wanted to talk about. But Drew was... like that. And Alfie didn't know anyone else who was, really. And Drew had been his mate since first year even if they were pretty different, and he knew that he could trust the other boy. Still, it wasn't something he really liked admitting to, even if he had to talk about it to figure it out.

When he came into the room, he looked around just to be sure the others were out, then he went and sat on the edge of Drew's bed, prodding him a little. "Hey."

"Wait, you're dating cause Jules said you took advantage of him?.. Alfiecakes, none of this is making any sense..."

"No..." Alfie frowned. "I'm explaining it wrong. It's just easier with Aud, right. I mean, she's been my friend for so long..."

Drew shrugged. "Do you like her as more of a friend?" he asked, because he hadn't seen that one coming and it sounded weirdly to him like Alfie was settling.

"I don't know." Alfie shrugged again. "I love her, you know. I always have. She's like my bst friend. And she's..." He shrugged yet one more time. He didn't have a good enough gesture to stop for it. "Snogging her isn't awful."

Drew knew he probably shouldn't have asked as soon as it was out of his mouth, but he did. "Did you like kissing Julien?"

Alfie turned a dark sort of red, and looked down at his knees, which had suddenly become very interesting. He didn't answer, but the bashful reaction was likely answer enough.

Ohhh... Drew thought about this. "More or less than you like snogging Audrey?" he asked carefully, not wanting to push anything on Alfie or push him into anything.

"Does it matter?" Alfie grumbled, closing his eyes again - his knees weren't interesting enough, apparently, and he couldn't even think about looking his friend in the eyes while he answered.

"More. I mean, a lot more." Something about the way Drew was asking questions and not trying to push anything made his answers more honest than they should have been. "Like my heart was going to pound through my chest. Like I wanted to stretch him out across the sofa and..." he winced, shaking his head and trailing off.

This all seemed very simple to Drew, apart from the fact that Alfie seemed to be doing things back to front here. He didn't say that though, the last thing he wanted was for Alfie to get defensive over something he clearly already felt uncomfortable about.

Plus, the sooner he helped Alfie realise what Drew could blatantly see, the sooner he'd get to hear more about hot sofa-stretching action.

"Do you like Julien as more than a friend?" he asked, softly.

"I..." Alfie shrugged helplessly and answered with, "I'm not like that." Except his tone was clearly asking, not stating.

"That isn't what I asked..." Drew pointed out gently, wanting an answer to the question, not a reflection on what that answer might mean.

"It is!" Alfie argued a little brokenly. "Because if I answer, then I am, and I'm not. It's... it's okay for you, and all, but I'm..." What? he wasn't sure how he should finish that sentence.

"I just wanted to know if you like him as more than a friend Alfkins, that's all." Drew said, maintaining a calm tone like they weren't discussing Alfie's sexuality.

"If you answer, that just means exactly what it means. It doesn't mean anything else just... do you like Julien?"

Alfie knew that somehow Drew was trying to trick him. It had to be a trick, because he knew that saying he liked Julien was a lot different, more real, than just feeling it every bloody second.

He bit his lip, then shrugged again, but there was a nod with it - quick and jerky - like he still wasn't sure he wanted to answer.

Okay, Drew was going to take what he could get on that matter. "So how come you're going out with Audrey instead of trying to work things out with Julien?" he asked. He had an inkling that the situation had just been more of this, Alfie being afraid to face that he had feelings for someone with the same parts and Julien, well... dormouse boy, nuff said.
