Dumbledore's Funeral Thread
Who: Anyone there (Feel free to start scenes in comments, or just to have your character pay their respects or disrespects!)
What: Dumbledore's funeral
Where: Hogwarts Grounds, by the lake
When: Today
Warnings: Sadness!

Standing with the other Professors, Minerva wasn't surprised that she could hold back her emotions. She had years of practice, after all, and the last thing she could imagine Albus Dumbledore wanting was her tears, or anyone else's for that matter. Had it been up to him, the song that played would have been jolly - there would have been bright colours and sweets and laughter. No one, though, particularly felt like laughing. She wasn't surprised. Nor was she surprised by the mass of people who had turned up to pay their respects. Looking around at those gathered she couldn't remember the last time the grounds of the school had been so diverse. Hogwarts teachers, staff, and students of course, and various wizards and witches of all ages but beyond that there were ghosts and centaurs filed in next to one another. Even a few merpeople had deigned to make an appearance, and one giant, though both small groups looked more as if they were investigating than mourning.

Albus had been draped in purple velvet - fitting, she thought - and entombed in a white marble sarcophagus beside the lake. Absently, Minerva thought that he would have far preferred this placement for his final resting place if the Giant Squid was still close by. As it was, she thought that here he might be a bit lonely - the only Hogwarts Headmaster to be buried on the grounds. She hoped, during her time at the helm of the school, that she might deserve such an honor.

As the speeches to Dumbledore's memory came to an end, the gathered company stood and began to file past the sarcophagus to pay their final respects, to speak their final silent words to the man they all respected and loved. The haunting sounds of a mournful dirge echoed over the waters of the lake, performed by the Weird Sisters off to the side, their usual wild outfits suitably subdued for the event. They weren't the only guests of note. Wizards and witches from all walks of life, more then one of them some sort of celebrity in the wizarding world, filed past to pay their respects. All of them had been touched, one way or another, but the life or words of Albus Dumbledore.

The sarcophagus gleamed in the late afternoon sunlight, smooth white marble, etched with magical runes and wards, the letters of his name carved across the lid, already worn smooth by the innumerable fingertips that had brushed it as his mourners marched past.

"No?" Mandy asked, confused. "But I thought you wanted to work in the Games department?" she asked, clearly not understanding the problem. Surely a Quidditch player would love to work in the games department, well when not on the pitch.

Mandy nodded at Viktor's question.. "I absolutely love it; unfortunately nowhere near as good as you, but aye. I'd love to play for England" she clarified with a smile. As much as she'd enjoyed Ireland playing, she was English to the core and proud of it; even if she, like most of her countrymen, didn't often admit it. "Ah well maybe one day when you're well, we'll battle each other on the pitch," Mandy said, her tone clearly teasing him as well.

"You haven't?" Mandy asked, looking actually fairly stunned at the revelation. She shook her head and made a soft sound of disapproval. "It's such a shame. We're really brilliant actually, wicked out on the pitch too!" She said, finding herself laughing softly at her completely brazen attitude. It was rather out of character, for her but then she was incredibly nervous. "But truly, it is a shame you haven't met many of us. Yes, our colours are blue and bronze, and I suppose our aspects are intelligence, whit learning; but we're really not as boring as it sounds." she said with a grin.

Viktor was pleasantly surprised by her return teasing, and his shoulders dropped as some tension left him, always trained to be stiff and formal when first meeting new people. He chuckled at her correction, and put his hands up in mock defense, "England, yes it is England, I should of said. And I work in the Department of Magical Transportation I am afraid to admit. It is not where near as glamorous as the Magical Sports Division. There were no openings there, so I was encouraged to try in other departments. It's a bit far from a pitch," and he had to smile again, "Unless there's a Floo entrance about one, which is not exactly likely."

He walked at her side, now finding it more interesting that she was very much a Quidditch fan, and yet hadn't thrown herself at him, or stammered out words to him in any sort of girlfannning. It made him relax even more so.

"I would very much like to battle you on the pitch," he said, his voice deep and teasing, "But I think if you knocked me off my broom, I'd be in hospital again. No, best I wait on that, if you think you'd be interested in a month or so?" he asked, watching her face carefully for her reaction, "And that doesn't sound like much of a boring lot, to be focused on learning. I like to learn myself," and he paused, "And read. But those are not things they put into the fan magazines I'm afraid. I might be labeled a bit soft if people knew how I spent my free time."

Mandy found herself smiling and even giggling just a little as Victor corrected himself. She hadn't meant to be mean, though it looked, thankfully, like Viktor understood that. "Oh that's a shame! But I'm sure it's only a matter of time, before you get your dream job. They'd be mad not to want to hire the great Viktor Krum."

Mandy couldn't help but grin at the offer. Oh, she loved Quidditch beyond measure, and had spent many years practicing out of class hours; but as good as she hoped she was, Mandy knew she could never compete professionally. "That'd be really brilliant actually," Mandy said with a nod, certain that Viktor wouldn't actually remember his offer, though even the thought was amazing. "And I even promise to go easy on you," she added and gave the star a wink. "Ah, well that's good to hear, I do love reading, almost as much as Quidditch, though I see why they wouldn't want to admit that in magazines. I do promise not to tell a single soul though!"

Vikto shook his head, grinning, "I am not the great Krum anymore. I am like..what is the word? The chicken, grounded and not able to fly," he added with a snort, "I have become the Earth bound bird. So I read, and I have been walking and running," and he paused, "I have been exploring your English gardens. They are pleasant places to walk and think," and after another pause, "And I do not get accosted by many fans, who remind me of my past glory."

And he gave her a large smile, "You have made me feel very comfortable, telling you my secrets. And I am taking up all of your time. You must have many friends you would wish to be with?" he asked her, wondering if he was delaying her in some way.

Mandy laughed softly before her hand went up to her mouth in surprise at the insult even if Viktor had been referring to himself. "Oh no, it's not so bad. Though you're right you should let yourself heal, and running isn't so bad." She added, smiling again as he mentioned England. Only blushing slightly at the comment about fans. "They're quite beautiful. Hogwarts does have some very amazing gardens as well."

It was impossible to responde to such a smile and compliment with anything but another large grin. "I'm glad to hear that," She paused for a moment, biting on her lower lip before nodding. She had wondered where her mates had wandered off to, but more importantly really she was starting to feel just a tiny bit bad that she was enjoying so much talking to someone when she'd just been at a funeral. "You're not taking up my time at all, though I'm sure you have better things to be doing, and I should probably return to my coursework."

"No, no, that was not I meant. I have much free time," and he smiled again, "I should be perhaps more direct. Of your friends, do you perhaps know Hermione Granger?" he asked carefully, so as not to seem too eager, "I was not sure how often people become friendly outside of their houses, and I did not see her here today."

Viktor stepped closer to Mandy ever so slightly, "I know I am keeping you from your schooling, and I am sorry. I am worried about my old friend."

His face was open as he looked at her, hoping she'd heard something or knew Hermione. It was a long shot, he knew.

Ah of course! This made much more sense now. She felt a bit silly now that she'd been going on and on considering he'd been wanting information on his friends. "I do. Though not very well," she frowned a little trying to remember, what if anything she'd heard about Hermione's recent disappearance. Mandy had never spoken much to Harry, Ron on Hermione outside of class, and sometimes she was right glad of it considering just the sheer number of times they ended up in the Hospital Wing. "No, I'm very sorry, but I don't know much outside of the rumours. You'd likely be better off talking to Ginny Weasley, she may have heard from them. I'm sure wherever they are they're fine."

He couldn't help but let a little bit of disappointment show there in his expression. He nodded, "Well, I wasn't sure. And I did need to ask. I thank you for your help," and he paused moving next to her as they entered the school. He stopped next to her for a moment, "I understand you have more to do today then allow me to occupy all of your time. Mandy, it was very much a pleasure speaking with you today," he said, making a small bow to her.
