Characters: Maeve Sheridan and Open
Setting: Wednesday afternoon/evening, post class time.
Summary: Maeve spends her free time doing some recreational potions work.
Warnings/Rating: G/PG, most likely nothing to worry about.
"Twelve...thirteen..." Maeve watched the spoon chase the liquid in her cauldron around in a slow, steady, anticlockwise motion. The steam rising off the simmering brew intensified, as Maeve pushed a limp strand of hair out of her face and reached for her wand. Her end of the usual chilly dungeon was warmed by the fires she had blazing under two different cauldrons, each containing some potion as a different stage in it's development. With her jumper tossed aside and her sleeves pushed up, Maeve occupied a stole in front of the middle one, giving it her undivided attention while the other stewed steadily.
A brief jerk of her wand stopped the ladle and she pulled out a sample, dispersing it amongst three glass phials. Leaning close to the containers, she consulted the tome propped in front of her before adding a different pinch of Angel's Trumpet from one of three different piles to her samples. They each turned a violent shade blue; the first two turned gradually but the last changed almost as soon as the shredded plant made contact. Maeve watched them for only a moment more before dumping the last pile of Angel's Trumpet into the cauldron and starting the spoon stirring again.
"Shaved roots," Maeve muttered as she wrote down in her notebook the result, "More efficient than shredded or ground." She gave a small hum of surprise as she set her quill down and prodded the flame with her wand, lowering it's intensity. The wall of heat that had been bearing down moments before ebbed and Maeve let out a relieved sigh before leaning on the counter to watch the tiny flicker of the flame as she waited for her next step. Hand against her head, she propped her elbow on the table for support and slid her book over, scanning over the directions again. Girding potion was a NEWT level brew but she preferred the challenge and the more difficult potions were more interesting to study anyway.
