Susan allowed silence to fall between them as she studied the last few bites of her sugar quill. Popping the rest into her mouth, she savored the lingering flavor of blueberry. "Whatever you decide to do, Ernie, I will stand by you, and I know our friends will as well. You need to stop doubting yourself, and give yourself more credit. You're smart, Ernie, and brilliant," Susan wanted to add that he was perfect but she bit her tongue and just swallowed the rest of the sugar quill down.
Quickly averting her gaze she looked out the window which was overlooking the lake. The empty lake without a single ripple breaking it's glassy reflection. "Who's going to save the first years when they fall over the boats now?" Susan wasn't really posing the question for Ernie, it was more in general.
