Ernie couldn't help it. He rolled his eyes at the idea of any part of this year being fun and relaxing. That was, before he joined Susan in laughing. He couldn't help that either. Susan laughing just made him want to laugh too.
"Well," Ernie began, biting off the tip of his sugar quill and bracing himself for the whole story to come out. "The Slytherins rather did have their revenge, that's why the Squid isn't here. But they could also find out where the squid was if they really wanted. And they are still bitter about those packages. And you know how Megan and the Weasleys and all the others felt about the Squid leaving, and they wanted to make sure it was safe."
Ernie grimaced. "Merlin, Susan, I don't know what I was thinking. But..." Ernie bit off a little more of the sugar quill in the hope that it would bring some Gryffindor-style courage, and finished, "I cut a deal with a Slytherin."
