Who: Padma Patil, Demelza Robins
When: Thursday morning
Where: Grounds, by the Whomping Willow
What: Padma stumbles across the Willow taking its frustrations out on Demelza.
Rating: T.B.A. Probably tame!
Open/Closed: Closed

It was early, even by Padma's standards. She tended to be an early riser, most days. She'd rather be up early and get her day started and maybe be able to sneak in a nap at some point than laze in bed longer than she had to. She'd woken up before sunrise today though, and hadn't been able to get back to sleep.

She'd finally given it up for a bad job and gotten dressed, slipping out of the Ravenclaw commons. She'd go for a walk, while she had a few free minutes, and then go to breakfast. She hadn't actually gotten outside since Sunday, she was fairly sure.

Padma didn't have any set destination, but she stopped when she heard something that might be a scream. Or maybe a curse? She really wasn't sure. Whatever it was, it came along with the distinctive WHOMP of the Whomping Willow, and Padma groaned and then hurried that way to try to help.

Petrifying charm or not, broken bones hurt, and even though she couldn't really feel anything, she knew her bones were broken, and that thought hurt. But she didn't complain, because she was perfectly capable of getting through pain. Well, and she couldn't move, but that was not the point.

The stares in the hallway were embarassing, really, but the news would get out somehow, and it wasn't like there was anyway to have prevented them anyway. At any rate, the closer they got to the Hospital Wing, the fewer people there were. Everyone was down at breakfast.

Once under Madam Pomfrey's supervision she had expected Padma would leave for breakfast. But she wasn't upset that Padma was waiting, of course, but the pain was fully back with the charms undone, and she winced as she said "No, I don't need anything. Just, my bag is in the changing rooms at the Pitch. It's got a security charm on it, but I don't really want to leave it there for too long." She didn't want it to be a Slytherin who found it. It didn't have anything especially valuable, but she didn't fancy the idea of losing her uniform and half of her books.

"I'll fetch it and bring it up to you?" Padma offered. "I can fix you a plate at breakfast too and bring it up, in case you're hungry later. I doubt you much feel like eating now."

She looked sympathetic, and promised quickly. "I'll put in a report with Professor McGonagall. About the tree, and how it seems to be more violent than usual. And overgrown. I can't believe none of us had noticed it before this. I'm very sorry it took you being injured for it to come to anyone's attention."

Demelza smiled gratefully at Padma. "That would be really helpful. Although you'd need to ask Madam Pomfrey if I'm allowed to have food while dosed with potions. I've never known how that worked." And it wasn't like she had never been up here with broken bones or other things besides. She'd just never thought to ask.

Demelza was glad to hear that the tree would be taken care of, but she rather liked it when it wasn't attacking her. Her first day at Hogwarts Ron and Harry had crashed a flying car into the Willow, and she liked that story. Rather like Colin and Dennis liked the story of when Dennis had been pushed out of the lake by the Giant Squid on his first day. It would be nice if one of them had some reminder of their first day at Hogwarts.

So she replied, "make sure they don't get rid of the Willow, yeah? It's still cool, even if it did hurt me."

"I'll ask. I think it should be fine though. Usually from what I've read only the really serious healing potions for regrowing limbs or the like are really undermined by having food in your system," Padma answered.

She couldn't help but smile a little at the plea. "Don't worry about the tree. I'll report what happened of course and recommend it maybe be fenced off more effectively and definitely trimmed, at least. I doubt they'll remove it." Since Demelza's parents weren't influential, loud purebloods insistent on having it gone, most likely.

"I'll be back with your bag. Is there anything else I can do for you?" she asked the other girl.

Demelza smiled, "Well, I would like food. So I would appreciate it. I've just never been any good at Potions, and never thought about Healing beyond visiting the Hospital Wing." She had to admit, that was rather Gryffindor of her - act, let someone else deal with the consequences.

"But really, other than protecting that storied tree, and protecting others from it a bit, there's nothing to do but wait." She was still going to worry about the tree. Her parents did work at the Ministry, and if word got around - well, she hoped it wouldn't be a problem. "So, just my bag is fine."
