Having a night off was nice, because it meant that Adrian had a chance to visit with his girlfriend and their son. Girlfriend. That still sounded strange to say, but it was definitely in a good way. All that time when he'd just been fooling around with Ali while they were at school, there had been feelings bubbling beneath the surface and it felt good to finally acknowledge them.

They'd spent the day with their son, which had been amazing, but a couple of hours ago they'd left him with her mother so they could have a night out. That was nice, too. They'd chosen a small club where they'd been able to have a few drinks and do a little dancing. It sounded simple, but Adrian was enjoying just spending time with her.

They'd taken a break, Ali excusing herself for a trip to the loo while Adrian made his way back toward the bar. He was parched from all the dancing and he suspected Ali would be ready for another drink, as well, once she returned.

George worked too hard. If you asked him, at least. Which no one ever did. And anyway he liked his work, so he didn't much mind but there were nights when one needed a night off. Specifically there were nights when one was supposed to be going over quarterly accounts and profits to use as part of their new shop pitch, and when one didn't do them one's twin would have to do them. Which was only fair since Fred had broken the One Rule. George felt that meant he had to do everything boring for at least a month. Possibly a year. Maybe until George forgot about it, or they hired someone else to work at the shop and George snogged them to even out the scales of justice.

But at any rate, he'd gone out. By himself, but that wasn't so much lack of company as it was keeping his options open, he decided. Well that and Ang and Katie had been busy or asleep or having incredible lesbian sex that they didn't want to interrupt to go out. (He liked that last explanation the best.)

And Lee was doing something work-like. George forgot what. But he'd found a cute black-haired girl that he'd bought drinks for, and he now had pink lipstick smeared on both cheeks. But then she'd finally smiled with her mouth open and she had a gaping hole between her teeth. Someone could drive an auto through there. George found it entirely distracting and slipped away.

He was about to make a dash for it when he spied a familiar face. A face that should, by rights, be covered with boils.

Or rashes.

He really wished he'd brought some of that new itch powder that they'd in no way sent to Ginny's friend.

"Oi! Pucey! How've you been! Any more nice girls walking around saddled with kids you abandoned, or just the one?" George asked, clamping Adrian's shoulder in a way that would have been friendly. And probably LOOKED almost friendly. Except for how it was more or less a punch only with a friendlier look and an open hand.

He plonked himself down in Ali's abandoned chair - ignoring the evidence that it was occupied. Since he was either out with Ali, or he was out with someone Not-Ali. Which meant George could cut off his ears.

George worked too hard? That was a laugh. Adrian would hardly call what the other man did work and he would have snorted openly at the implication. Not that he'd be surprised. He'd always see most of the Weasleys as lazy, arrogant pricks.

He groaned inwardly at the sound of that voice. That irritating voice that obviously belonged to one of the twins, not that he could tell them apart. It wasn't like he cared which he was talking to, though. He knew they were friends with Ali, which gave him reason to at least attempt to be civil, but there was a vast difference between civility and really giving a shit which one of them was addressing him now.

"Abandoned?" He raised an eyebrow. Of course that was the Weasley assessment of the situation. They appeared to carry just as much prejudice toward him as he did them. It couldn't be further from what had happened, but he was fairly certain that didn't matter to the redhead. Normally he'd settle for ignoring, but he doubted that would actually work. Polite conversation, at least, then, until Ali returned.

"I'd call that a radical interpretation of the text," he added, what could pass for a friendly smile on his face even as he rolled his eyes.

George countered, leaning back in his seat and smiling in a way that looked more like he was imagining what Adrian would like like were he covered in boils, transfigured into a canary, and then fed to basilisk than any real kind of friendliness.

George's interpretation wasn't accurate. But that didn't actually matter, anyway. Since he loved Ali, and he hated Adrian. Well. He hadn't known him well enough to hate him before, he'd just lumped him in with the rest of the snakes he disliked and would like to see stomped on by angry giants with spiky shoes on. (Though he didn't think giants wore shoes. And who would make them if they did? Niche market, that. Though maybe if they could get them to stomp on people who needed a stomping. . . )

Now Adrian was the one who'd left Ali with Ryan though. It elevated his status in the twin echelon of dislike.

"Not remotely what happened," Adrian muttered, not that he though the idiot cared what had actually happened between he and Ali, nor would he probably believe that he would never have left her to raise their child alone had he known what was going on.

Defending himself was pointless and Adrian gave a shrug then before pulling his drink to his lips.

"Was there something you wanted then, Weasley?" he asked when whichever twin was addressing him (did he really care which? no) lingered. He'd hoped he had intended to make his idiotic comments and go, but he was still here, doing a fair job of putting a damper in Adrian's night out with Ali.
