It took Aud a moment to understand Sam's reference and when she did, she laughed, in spite of herself. It wasn't nice to make fun of her friend, but Merlin, Sam was right. Evie did look like an artichoke. "She's probably stressed," Aud found herself defending her best friend, though her expression was mild. "She might need help."
Running her hands along the front of her dress, Audrey wished there were pockets, because it would mean something to do with her hands. Now that they weren't alone and her fingers weren't entwined with Sam's, Aud felt awkward and shuffley and ended up wrapping her arms around herself.
