Who: Rhydian Oakby and Lennox Campbell
What: Rhydian has invited himself over. Kind of.
Where: Lennox's place.
When: Tonight
Warnings/Rating: TBA/Probably low

Rhydian had always been confident in his ability to cheer people up. It wasn't until he had already arrived on Lennox's doorstep, however, that he stopped to think about why exactly a harmless little prank like that might put someone out of sorts. Surely the man couldn't think he had sent it. Some other reason, then - there was someone he hoped hadn't sent it, more than likely. He could understand that.

Still, it was a bit daunting, and maybe it would have been better to come over sometime when Lennox hadn't been put in a sour mood by a piece of flying fruit. He was already here, though, and had brought along a plate of mince pies he'd stolen from his last visit with his mother - mostly as an antidote to the reputation he suspected he'd developed as a drunk. It wasn't pears, it wasn't alcohol, and hopefully it wasn't too distasteful. Either way, he would be glad to see him. That much he hoped he was clear on.

Lennox had needed something to do with himself other than just wait for Rhydian to come over, so he'd made dinner anyway - bourbon chicken with a potato mash, not anything too difficult or fancy, but he thought Rhydian might like the bourbon and he'd been hungry, anyway.

By the time the bell rang, he'd mostly put his sour mood behind him - he didn't stop to question how much Rhydian wanting to come over had to do with that. He wasn't sure why the trick this morning had fed the mood he'd been in since the loss to Wimbourne, but it had. If it hadn't been for the 'true love' bit at the end, it might not have, but he really didn't want to start thinking about it again.

Instead he finished setting the plates out - dinner in the family style plates between their sides of the table - and pushed his hair back as he walked to answer the door.

"Hello," he said, offering him a grin that hid any uncertainty he might have been feeling. It had been a while since he'd seen Lennox out of uniform, but he was getting used to the dichotomy, and liked it. "I brought snacks. ... Or dessert." Judging by the smell, there had recently been something like dinner in the vicinity.

Lennox out of uniform was fairly casual, this time around. His jeans looked neat but well worn, and the long sleeved teeshirt he wore was blue and comfortable. He thought that he should have changed, maybe, but it was too late now.

"Dessert, if you haven't eaten already? I made dinner. But if you don't want..." He trailed off, stepping back to let Rhydian in with a smile. "Well, you'll have to watch me eat, then. I'm hungry."

Rhydian wasn't one to stand on ceremony when it came to clothes. Jeans were pretty much the staple of his wardrobe, when he didn't have to be at work, and sometimes when he did. He certainly wasn't overdressed on a Sunday.

"I haven't, and it smells perfect. I have quite a nose for whiskey, too." He was almost certain he smelled some of that. He came in and set the plate on the nearest appropriate piece of furniture he could find. "I don't turn down food, I think you'll find. I'm not much good at putting it together."

"Oh, good.." Lennox waited until the door was closed and was a little awkward about taking the packages Rhydian had brought with him, but he got it eventually and then nodded toward the kitchen where he'd set out dinner. "I'll give you the tour later, then?"

"I'll look forward to it. How's your week been? Aside from unsolicited gifts, and all that." He swept into the kitchen after him, genuinely hungry. He'd refrained from having a pie on his way over, but mostly because he hadn't wanted to deal with crumbs. "You know, I'm surprised you have time to cook at all." He stopped when he saw the table, and his smile warmed a bit. "But it looks like you do."

"Well, I only ever do anything simple," Lennox looked down at his feet at the compliment, shrugging again and then going to put the pies into the icebox. He took out a few beers and held one up for Rhydian, as if asking if it was okay. He didn't really like beer enough to know the difference - but he'd bought some a few days ago, and hadn't let himself think that it was just in case.

"More than one thing on a plate at a time isn't simple, in my book. But that probably says more about my standards than it does yours." Lennox's ... well, not timidity, but shyness, perhaps, was as endearing as he remembered it. And the beer came welcome, too. "Perfect." He took a seat unbidden, always a little too prone to making himself at home. "Last-minute hosting is a lucky skill to have."

"It just means making two chicken breasts instead of one..." Lennox smiled though, and made one more check around to be sure everything was there, then sat down too. "Guests first," he said, nodding to the plates so Rhydian could serve himself. "How was your week?"

"Thanks." He dug in without protest, scooping himself out a portion and not quite daring to serve his host, too. It was probably a little early for that, a little presumptuous. "Oh, just fine - Monday through Friday is usually a wash, you know, but I fit in some decent time here and there. Your tickets will be helping with that. I don't always manage to get to a game." Really, his weeks weren't all that interesting. Unless he wanted to complain about his job, which ... might need to wait a while, too. "And what about yours? Right back to the pitch, I suppose?"

"That seems to be quite a few days to be at a wash..." LEnnox said, but he wasn't bothered by it, and busy scooping himself out a healthy sized plate of the food as well. "I take it you didn't really go into your work because you have a passion for it?"

"Well - it's not bad work, though. But you're right." He sliced off a bite of chicken, ate, and smiled. "Excellent. It's just a job, mostly, and I've got something like experience in the subject. I figure it's better to give Muggles excuses than go around erasing memories right and left." That he was rather passionate about, but it was hard to get excited over filing things.
