SCENE LOTTO!
WHO: Cho Chang and Natalie Midgen
WHAT: SCENE LOTTO: They were in the grocery store, in the freezer section, when it happened.
WHEN: Evening.
WHERE: Muggle grocery store, freezer section.
RATING: Probably PG or so?
STATUS: Incomplete // Closed.

She had the maddest craving for ice cream and she couldn't shake it off. It was late, much too late to be shopping if you asked Natalie, but there she was standing in the freezer section, glancing over labels on ice cream. There were so many choices...it was hard to pick just one or two. There were a few miscellaneous items tossed in her basket, ones that she remembered they needed when she walked into the store, but they weren't what she really came for. Jackson was at home, and she knew she'd be curled up in his arms later. The thought made her fidgety, anxious to pick something and go.

But her craving wasn't giving her a clue as to what she really wanted. Something chocolate...something peanut-butter too. Maybe even with caramel. But no strawberry...she wasn't in the mood for strawberry. She gave a half wistful sigh and continued searching for the perfect ice cream, twisting a bit of her blond hair back.

She wasn't paying much attention to the other customers. There weren't very many really, what with it being past the time when everyone cooked supper. Most people were probably settling in with their families, relaxing before bed, and she was trying to satisfy her sweet tooth. She was half tempted to buy several different ones and just take a dip out of them all. That was quite the intriguing idea.

Ever since she had been spending more and more time with Devon, the Muggle boy her friend from the Ministry had introduced her to, Cho's curiosity about Muggles had grown to the point where she usually tried to find an excuse to hang out in Muggle establishments at least once or twice a week. Today she was in a grocery store, doing some shopping (and hoping that she remembered to bring enough money) for a couple things she needed.

She came across the frozen section, and when she spotted the ice cream section, a thought came to her... It might be fall, but who cares! Maybe she would try to bake an ice cream cake... Or maybe just warm up some peach pie and eat ice cream with it for dessert tonight; she didn't treat herself like that very often. And she knew exactly what she wanted: Strawberry ceesecake ice cream! It was by far superior, and by far her favorite.

"Excuse me," she said to the blonde woman standing in front of the ice cream, "can I get something from there real fast?"

She was snapped out of her contemplation when a female voice posed a question. It took her a few seconds to pull her name away from something that had to do with animal tracks. She'd let herself run away a little bit with thoughts about work, but she cleared her head from the daze.

"Of course. My head wasn't all in the pressie, sorry," she took a step to the side, letting the New Zealand slang fall easily from her lips with her still prominent accent. She let her eyes fall back on the choices, but she still hadn't entirely decided.

((OOC: *Cheesecake! I can spell.))

Cho smiled and shrugged, "Don't worry about it." She was a bit curious as it wasn't often she heard this kind of accent, and as someone who had been in Ravenclaw, she was possessive of an insatiable curiosity whenever an opportunity presented itself to learn something new.

She quickly grabbed her ice cream and put it in her cart with the rest of her foodstuffs. Lots of healthy things, of course, but if you were to push the zucchini and tomatoes aside you would find some cookies and other such delicious snacks.

She tried to tamper down her curiosity, but alas, it did not work. "If you don't mind me asking... where are you from?" Note to self, she added afterwards, don't mention anything about Hogwarts when in a muggle grocery.

Natalie had just decided that she would get something called 'Moose tracks' when the woman spoke again, drawing her attention. It wasn't often that she really took up conversations with strangers. Being the first to admit that she was shy and made terrible first impressions, Natalie often let it hinder her from making new acquaintances.

She put a smile on her face, hoping that it looked easy and not awkward, "New Zealand originally. I married into Britain whilst working in Greece," she knew it was a lot of information to offer, but offering an explanation on her reason for being in England didn't seem too unreasonable.

She reached into the ice cream freezer for her choice, depositing it into her basket with the other items, "Is the accent that noticeable?"

Cho had never really been shy or hesitant to talk to people; she'd been popular in school and actually felt more uncomfortable when she wasn't around lots of people. She was definitely a people person and had overcome any lingering shyness or whatnot during Auror training - and as a byproduct of her training as well, she was used to taking in larger amounts of information at once.

"I see," she said, then continued, "Not really. I'm just good at hearing the differences in how people pronounce things." There was a much longer explanation as to why, but it wasn't entirely something Cho deemed necessary to go into with every person she met, so she was content to save it unless a further explanation was asked of her. "I've never met anybody from New Zealand before."

It wasn't that Natalie didn't like people. She'd even had a lot of friends at school, and with her travels, she had made friends with people all over the world. But she had a hard time talking to people that she didn't know.

Natalie nodded softly, a bit of a blush rising in her cheeks. She knew that there was a difference, though her accent had once been much worse, back before she had begun her travels, "I suppose now you have. It's not really a big country. England is...busy, in comparison."

She'd grown up in a small little town, even though her own house was set far away from everyone elses. Everyone there knew her and thought her odd, "I'm Natalie Midgen, by the way."

Cho laughed, "Yeah... It does feel that way sometimes. But that's why you have to find a quiet place to call your own, to get away from it all." Cho preferred places that were high-up, like rooftops or balconies, as her quiet spots; looking down on the hustle and bustle of the city but experiencing immediate serenity was refreshing. Undoubtedly such places are also where she goes when she needs to think.

"Cho Chang. Pleasure to meet you." she said, nodding her head. "How long have you been here?"

Natalie pondered the quality of finding a little place to herself, but really...she had everything she needed in her flat with Jackson. She was happiest with him or surrounded by the pets that she'd always called her family. There was nothing better than curling up with Goliath and letting him protect her from all outside worries.

Making a mental note of the girl's name, Natalie gave the question a few seconds of thought, "My husband and I moved here in early June, but we left again for the last bit of July and most of August for our honeymoon. We've been back since, but I expect that traveling will catch back up again," she frowned softly. She loved traveling, she really did...but Jackson loved being in England, "The longest I've ever stayed in any one place over the last ten years was right at twelve months."
