Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Bethany & Astrophel
When: Tuesday Afternoon
Where: The Lucky Bakery, Diagon Alley
What: Just a random meeting, maybe a new friend
Rating: Probably just PG, maybe PG-13ish?
Open/Closed: Closed, incomplete

Bethany was always a sucker for good coffee and a cauldron cake. Ever since her first visit to The Lucky Bakery in Diagon Alley, she never could find a pumpkin cauldron cake with caramel icing that were anywhere near as good. Taking advantage of the day off from practice, Beth found herself there, staring at the familiar pastry through the case as she waited for the wizard in front of her to finish his order.

When he had gotten his coffee and pastry, she stepped to the counter and ordered her usual, a caramel latte with the pumpkin mini-cake. Humming to herself quietly she rocked gently on the balls of her feet, a habit she had since a child, she waited while the witch behind the counter made her drink and fetched her tidbit from it's case. After counting out enough money to cover the cost and a tip, she picked up her fares and moved over towards a cluster of plush chairs separated by tables covered with the latest issues of various wizarding newspapers and magazines.

After letting her eyes scan the few open seats there were, Beth smiled softly and approached a gentleman who was buried behind one of the periodicals that dotted the tables. "I hate to bother you..." She said, her voice loud enough to be heard but hopefully not enough to startle him, "but is that seat taken?" With that she motioned to the empty chair next to him.

Astrophel adored the bakery and he was pretty positive they adored him right back. Mostly because he was positive he accounted for quite a large amount of the profit they made, considering he was there every morning and if he couldn't make it he owled out for packages of his favorite pumpkin pasties and other necessary items.

Today happened to be a rather good day for Astrophel too. Not only did someone leave a complete issue of The Quibbler on one of the tables, but the pasties were particularly fresh this morning and the tea was too. The article on the front page of the Quibbler pertained to the useful ways of making friends with gnomes, which he had actually been wondering about lately with a great infestation of them having taken to his garden, and then...

To top it all off when he lowered his paper there, standing before him and looking like utter and complete perfection was Bethany Meadowes of the Holyhead Harpies. Only his FAVORITE team Ever! He could have died, honestly!

Of course, Astrophel was rich enough that he could've just bought the team if he wanted, but he wasn't that kind of wizard. He wasn't Braxton.

"Merlin's... beard, yes! I mean! No, I mean, it's.. free.. I mean, anything for Bethany Meadows!"

A deep flush managed to creep it's way up Beth's cheeks when as soon as the paper lowered, she was greeted not only by an incredibly attractive wizard, but one who happened to be an apparently large fan.

She had been a regular member of the Harpies for a few years, but had never quite gotten used to the attention that it sometimes brought her. Recovering quickly from the blush that was thankfully receding quickly, she flashed him another smile.

Moving to sit the small plate down on a free spot of the table between the two chairs, Beth reached out her hand. "You can just call me Beth. Only my mum calls me Bethany."

She was quite stunning in person, too! When he watched the games (which he did, religiously and from a box seat he owned) he only saw them as flashes of green and gold. He needed to invest in a pair of good binoculars if looking at them this close meant seeing some of the prettiest witches he would ever have the pleasure to see!

When she sat he folded up the paper and reached out to take her hand.

"Astrophel Fleetwood," he almost felt like bragging for a minute, almost felt like asking if she used his highly regarded broom polish but that sounded dumb in his head so he said nothing of the sort.

"Beth it is, merlin you have no idea.. I never miss a game, I can't wait until the season starts! Er, sorry, I must sound like some sort of rabid.. fanatic, or something. I can let you be.." he trailed off, lips pursing briefly.

A soft, friendly chuckle bubbled up out of Beth's lips as she watched the expression on Astrophel's face. She then shook her head, still smiling as he offered to leave her be. "Oh no! It's fine. I've been hiding in my 'how did we let Ireland lose to Scotland' hole for long enough." She explained, just a touch of her brogue detectable as she crinkled her nose at the thought of having to watch the Scots go on to the final.

Settling back in her chair even more, she reached out and picked a tiny piece off her cauldron cake and quickly chewed it before she gave him another curious look, the gears in her head obviously turning behind her eyes. "I know... Fleetwood." Again, her nose crinkled as she thought harder. "I know the name... I know your name. But..." She said, letting out a soft sigh as she gave up trying to place it. "I don't know from where." This looked like it worried her, and she in fact thought she might actually have met him before and had somehow managed to forget, which was very much out of character for her.

He tried very hard not to seem like an utter loony (which, if he were honest with himself he'd admit he completely was nutters in more ways than one) by seeming to overly thrilled with her choice to stay. He had to bite his lip to keep from asking her about what she thought about the upcoming season and luckily enough she mentioned something else.

"Oh.. yes, I saw all that shouting, in the journal, about Scotland. Shame. Real shame, you didn't play? You should've, would've been brilliant had you!"

He too settled back, a small boyish grin spreading across his face as she began crinkling her nose in thought. It was kind of cute the way she did that.

"I'm an inventor," and death eater, he thought for a moment. "I invented the Fleetwood broom polish?"
