Sometimes, Theo did better with fragments of speech than with sentences - smaller pieces had more chance of filtering through into his mind without getting mired, stuck the way longer bits did. Even then, he heard Greg without really taking anything in, especially as he was distracted like a magpie by the shiny key.
His fingers twitched, wanting to reach out and take it even if he would cut his hands on the way it sparkled, but then Greg's hand was there and Theo couldn't help reaching out to take it, getting up because then he could hold that hand close to his chest, cradled like a baby.
The idea of having a choice was foreign to him and he looked at Greg with a slightly blank expression but seemed pliant and willing to follow where Greg led. Seemed he wasn't speaking much today either.
