"I despise men like that," Delaney fumed. "What he needs is taking down a peg or two, and I would bloody love to be the one to do it. I cannot handle arrogance of that magnitude - except when it's warranted, as in my case." She fluttered her eyelashes obnoxiously and laughed. "And as for that, I'll tear him down right in front of him if I get even the slightest chance."
They were nearing the front entrance now, and Delaney could see the little worm standing off to the side, leering at her lasciviously, and she gave him her best "Not even in your dreams" look, sneering down her nose in the most belittling way she could manage. Yes, she and he would be encountering each other again in the not too distant future, and he would be coming off second best.
If that was a subtle hint for Delaney to be happy with what she had, it was a hint well taken. She even had the good grace to be a little ashamed of herself. Maeve was so sweet and lovely and didn't deserve to be jerked around the way Delaney was doing, even if she didn't know.
She reached into her purse to pay for the consult, smiling. "Again, thank you for all your help," she said. "And please do get in touch with me, about..." She looked around, not wanting to drop Anabel in any trouble by being indiscreet. Most employers didn't look too kindly on their staff soliciting new employment on company property. "About what we talked about. We have the journals, so I'll talk to you soon?"
