Who: Niki Urquhart and Braxton Derrick.
When: September 1st. Around suppertime.
Where: Braxton's ESTATE. Kitchen.
What: Niki grocery shops in Braxton's kitchen.
Rating: PG for potty mouths.
Status: Complete/Closed.

Suppertime came around and Niki went to the kitchen of his flat. Well, really the kitchen was not a seperate kitchen, just part of the main area of the small flat, the kitchen on one side and the living area on the other. Then a door off to the bedroom and washroom. But he wandered over to the kitchen area and found that his cupboards were bare. Just like Old Mother Hubbard. Except he didn't have a dog to give a bone to.

His stomach was hungry though, and he wanted food. The thought of going to the store didn't really occur to him. Instead, he took hold of his beloved wand, and Apparated to just outside his cousin's estate. And then went up the walkway and let himself in. Because Braxton always let him come and go, so any wards that might have been set let him through.

Instead of seeing if Brax was about, or announcing his presence, Niki went down the hall and into the kitchen. Poking about as he looked for things to eat. And then step about making himself a nice sandwich. A very nice sandwich. He made that, and poured himself a glass of juice, and then sat down at the kitchen table to eat.

After a morning meeting and an afternoon of socializing with a few patrons of Diamond, Braxton had returned home with the intention of a relaxing evening. He spent a bit of time working out in his personal gym, keeping up his physical strength. He had always been active, and that had never changed. After a shower and changing into semi-casual clothes, he decided that he might take a bit of a fly after dinner.

Heading to the kitchen gave him a surprise, however, because sitting at his table eating what looked to be a very carefully made sandwich was his cousin. His house elf was no where to be seen, so he figured that Niki must have let himself in and made his own food. This was the kind of thing that Brax tolerated a bit begrudgingly.

"Hello, Niki," he said calmly, "I wasn't aware that you were coming," although, his cousin seemed to pop up randomly all the time. Braxton really shouldn't have been surprised anymore, "You know, I do have a house elf that would have made you a sandwich," he felt the need to point it out, to reiterate the things that Niki had once known. He called out for his house elf, Quirk, and smiled a bit. Even if it was a bit unorthodox, Braxton actually liked his house elf, and Quirk adored him, "Dinner, if you would, Quirk. I'll be dining with Niki, so something quick will do."

He took up a seat at the table with his cousin, and tilted his head a bit curiously, "It's been several days since I've seen you. I assume things are well?"

The sound of the door opening was noticed by Niki, although he didn't pay much mind of it. He just sat there, biting into the edge of his sandwich, one of the pointed triangle corners. It was a very good sandwich, he decided. With lots of meat and cheese.

When Braxton came into the kitchen, then did his eyes lift, looking a tiny bit skewed, like usual. He lowered the sandwich and offered up one of his crooked little smiles.

"I didn't have any food," he explained, although that did not explain why he hadn't gone to purchase any. This had just seemed like the most sensible solution to him! Of course 'sensible' had it's own meaning for Niki.

"You do," he agreed about the House Elf - and then, there he was. With his big eyes and bigger ears. Niki eyed him a bit suspiciously, mouth pressing up a bit. His gaze shifted back to his cousin.

"Oh yes. Yes. We - I am well." A rather uncanny blink and then he asked, "How's the gem?" meaning Diamond.

Even if Niki was off he didn't have it in him to shun his cousin. He'd tried at first, a long while back, to spend less time around him and disregard him, but Niki was still the boy that he'd always seen as his brother. Underneath all of the changes, he was still Nikolai.

Braxton didn't really give much thought to the fact that Niki had taken food without asking, and that he hadn't just gone to the store. Braxton would share with him what he had to a certain extent. He certainly wasn't going to get upset over a sandwich. Almost anyone else he would persecute, but not his cousin.

He was a bit pleased when the 'we' disappeared to an 'I'. That was at least one thing good about this visit, "It's perfectly well. You'll have to stop in again some time," he gave a bit of a curt thanks to Quirk when a sandwich was presented in front of him. It was made with precision and careful hands.

"Do you plan to stick around for a bit?"

"I can do that," Niki agreed. He liked Diamond. He felt somehow important when he went there, with all the rich, posh people. Even though many gave him sideways looks and murmured behind their hands. Niki was used to that - and good at not paying them any mind.

He lifted his sandwich again and took another bite. Some of the mayonaise slipped over his fingers and he licked it off with a swipe of his pink tongue.

"Oh. I can stick around. I don't have anywhere to be." Which was the truth most of the time. Niki was between jobs at the moment - and he didn't exactly have a booming social life. When he went out, it tended to be at random - to sit in a dirty bar, or to wander through Knockturn Alley and other such things.

It was known by most that frequented Diamond that if they saw Niki wandering about they were to accept it. Anyone that complained was very likely going to end up on less than favorable terms with the owner of the club. Despite his antics, Braxton protected his cousin.

He took a bite of his sandwich, watching his cousin closely, and having the urge to reprimand him for poor table manners, but keeping it to himself. His own sandwich wasn't...leaking condiments, but he used a napkin anyway.

"I had considered going flying after dinner. But if you don't want to do that there are many other options," he mentioned nonchalantly. It didn't really bother him too badly how long Niki stayed, and he certainly wasn't going to toss him out immediately. After all...sometimes he could break through and get to the old Niki, if only for a few moments. That was always rewarding.

Niki's eyes lit up at the mention of flying. "I want to go flying," he said immediately. Niki had always loved to fly, and now was no different. That love was even stronger, perhaps, because he had such a fondness for birds. He wished he had wings that he could fly with, but he would make do with a broomstick.

"We can fly," he added for good measure, because that seemed like a great idea. "D'you have an extra broomstick." His was back at his flat, since he had just Apparated himself over.

He took another bite of his sandwich, this time a bit more tidly, mimicking Braxton.

Braxton continued to eat as Niki replied to his suggestion. He had been pretty certain that he wouldn't object. After all, his cousin enjoyed flying just as much as he did. Even before school, Braxton had always loved to fly. It was...empowering and freeing at the same time.

"Of course I do," he answered easily, giving a bit of a grin that was reserved for only those he liked, "I've got several. Though, some haven't been used in a bit."

Even still, they should have been perfectly fine. He kept them all in impeccable condition. He had most every broomstick he'd ever owned, and he had bought a newer one recently. So he'd let Niki take out any of the others he wanted except the newest.

"Good," Niki said, because then he wouldn't have to Apparate home to grab his broomstick. Apparating several times in the same evening would sometimes make him feel a biot nauseous.

"Where should we fly to?" he asked as he finished off the first sandwich haslf and then picked up the second one - this time using his napkin in between, instead of licking his fingertips.

He washed it down with a mouthful of his drink and soon enough was finished the sandwich. "That. Was good," he decided.

"Anywhere we want, little cousin," Braxton said with a grin, thinking it an appropriate answer. He did whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, generally. That was one of the perks of being his own boss. Yes, he had people depending upon him to be at meetings and things, but he could just as easily have someone go in and take notes for him if he damn well pleased it.

His property boundaries were vast, but he didn't care if they left them. Regardless, he was just going to enjoy the evening flying with his cousin, and maybe, just maybe, it would be a bit like it used to be.
