He was a bit surprised to find her pulling him back, especially with the forwardness of someone that was older and more experienced than he knew she was. She caught on fast. But that didn't stop him from kissing her, from putting one hand on the counter beside her hip, and the other at the nape of her neck...from fighting to control himself.
Perhaps he shouldn't have revoked that offer of marriage the first time he'd met her. It wouldn't have been the first crazy thing he'd ever done. He kissed her for several long moments, more than tempted to pull her closer, but eventually, he had to break the kiss. He leaned his forehead against hers for just a few moments, torn between kissing her again or doing what he knew he should.
"I'm distracting you from work...I should go," he said softly, his voice a little huskier than normal. He extracted himself from her with a hint of regret, obviously not wanting to. This wasn't what he had planned on...this was a lot different. But not an entirely unwelcome outcome either.
He grabbed her hand and pressed a kiss against her knuckles like a gentleman, not trusting himself to kiss her lips again and still be able to leave, "You still haven't gotten out of singing for me again, though. You can be sure of that." Just a bit of a promise...a reassurance that she would see him again, that he wasn't just running out on her.
Taking a few, slow backwards steps, he held her gaze, a bit of a smile playing on his lips, and then he turned to leave. He realized that he hadn't looked around the store...he hadn't done what he came to do either. But he still left Odds and Ends with a smile.
