One more day. Well, four hours today, and then the next day - six-thirty in the morning until noon - and it would be over. The horrors of working in a shop that dealt in school text books had never truly hit Eloise until the last few weeks. Day after day of harried parents and caregivers flooding through the front doors, disgruntled students complaining about the girth of a particular volume, ransacking shelves, leaving everything in a disorder, venting their frustrations on anyone who happened to be in the vicinity.
Eloise was tired of it, and tired in general. She was positive that she could easily just curl up right here on the bench and sleep until the end of the week - but the lobster lo mein sitting on the tray in her lap was delicious, and she had to be back in half an hour. Best just to enjoy this moment, get through the rest of her shifts, and look forward to two glorious days off afterward.
