Who: Marcus Flint and Luna Lovegood
When: Saturday Day
Where: Peasegoode Quidditch and Wizarding Park
What: While Marcus goes through his usual training regiment before the season starts he runs into someone acting.. a bit strange.
Rating: PG-13 maybe, depending on his use of bad language.
Open/Closed: Open to Luna Lovegood for now

He was always weary of practicing in public just before the start of a season but everyone was so obsessed with the practices of the international teams that he didn't think there would be a soul at Peasegoode Wizarding Park. When he apparated within the magical grounds he was pleased to know his prediction was pretty spot on. A quaffle under one arm and a broom in hand he sighed heavily, squinted at the small pitch that kids used from time to time to pretend they were Quidditch stars under the supervision of their parents. The goals were slightly blurry but if he narrowed his eyes they came into focus better.

Shit.

He needed to get another round of charms done on his eyes before the season started. Marcus strode up to the pitch and chucked his broom outward. The broom snapped into place, hovered in mid-air and the silver tipped twigs gleamed in the light of the bright sun. Marcus shifted onto the thing and lifted off with one strong push off the ground. The quaffle was thrown the moment he was high enough and the thing, enchanted to whiz around the pitch, allowed him chance to practice his techniques in capturing.

But everytime he got close to the damned thing his swipes missed four times out of five. It was like his depth perception was completely off and it got to the point that after ten goes he got extremely frustrated and flew harder into the damn thing then he intended. He didn't catch the quaffle now, but rather his broom shoved it hard off course and the enchantment must've gone wonky because the way it moved after that was more like a bludger.

"God.. dammit.." he flew after it and only when he was an arms length away did he notice it was hurling toward somebody who was walking about the park near the pitch.

"OY! WATCH OUT!" Marcus sped up and managed to jump off his broom and tackle the Quaffle to the ground. His whole body slammed into the ground and the weight of his body on the Quaffle seemed to be enough to keep it from getting out of his grip. Marcus groaned, shifted over to lay on his back so he could fish his wand out of his robe's inner pocket and take the charm off. Then he spread his arms and let the quaffle roll off of his chest and onto the grass. He glanced over to his right and saw his broom hovering in place, waiting for him to mount again. He had grass stains on his robes and his body ached.

"Son of a bitch..."

It was a lovely afternoon and Luna had decided that a nice fly would be a good way to relieve some of the stress that running the Quibbler caused. From the sky she would able to see which areas had nargle clusters she could inspect.

So caught up in her thoughts on yelling that was directly at her pulled her out of it something large was flying at her as was a person who managed to tackle the object before she had time to react. Rushing over to the person she peered down at the body that was groaning.

"Are you ok? Thank you for the timely rescue."

Marcus didn't answer for almost a whole minute. If he did he knew he'd say something he might regret. Like, 'do I fucking look okay?' or.. well, something equally as unpleasant. So he bit his tongue and caught his breath before sitting up to better look upon who he just rescued.

How was it that in the past few days he had already rescued now two witches? Was this going to be a new fucking trend?

Marcus leaned over a drawn up knee and ran a hand through his hair.

"Yeah, yeah..." and he hated asking but he did sort of want to make sure. "You're fine though? The charms on that thing have been getting wonky, turned it into a bludger more than a quaffle."

Leaning down Luna offered her hand so he could stand up. She was very grateful since she had, had no chance to really protect herself. "Oh yes I'm fine, I'm pretty good with charms though if you'd like help." She offered with a smile. Hunting nargles could wait if it meant learning the exact work behind charming quaffles.

"Did you buy them pre-charmed or did you do it yourself?"

"Pre-charmed," he muttered, ignoring her hand and moving to stand on his own. If he had charmed it the thing might've been.. blown up or something. Marcus was still not the greatest with working difficult or intricate charms or spells.

He was much taller than the girl, practically towered over her, actually. Something about the blonde was vaguely familiar but he couldn't exactly place where, nor did he care to try and remember. If it was important he was sure he would recall.

"It's old though, so..."

Luna nodded as the man admitted the quaffle was pre-charmed, she knew from an expose that some of the older charms had been a little carelessly added at the shops.

"Well I know a little about the charms, I wouldn't mind trying to get yours to work again if you don't mind."

The Wizard was very tall but Luna was used to most people being taller than she was.

Marcus scooped up the Quaffle and turned to face her. Then, he threw the quaffle toward her gently and returned to sitting on the ground with a sigh.

"Yeah go for it. Doesn't really fuckin' matter though. Charmed right or not, I can't seem to catch 'em like I used to," he gestured to his eyes.

"Can't see them right."

Luna caught the quaffle and inspected it with her wand reading the charms that were currently on the sports equipment. She could read a couple that were weaker than the should be. Hearing his comments though she crouched down to look at her rescuer.

"What are you eyes doing to mislead you? There are various potions and charms that could help eyesight."

Marcus tilted his head and considered telling her but it seemed... pointless. Trivial. Why did she care anyways? Why did he care about telling her, she was a stranger, not a friend and not someone who could do anything about it anyway.

He squinted. "You work for the Prophet? Witch Weekly?"

Luna couldn't help but feel insulted, like she would work for either of those kinds of publications. "Absolutely not! They are rude and only write things to sell papers. I work for the Quibbler where everything has to be published accurately and kindly." She informed the man, he looked slightly familiar so she guessed that he was either semi famous or they had attended school together.

"Who are you any way, other than my rescuer?"

The Quibbler? He didn't hide his snicker but didn't exactly laugh so hard that it was incredibly rude. Marcus couldn't help it though, the Quibbler was not something he supported, none of his housemates ever really did and his family certainly did not.

Marcus figured she was harmless then, wouldn't blab too much about his condition.

"Marcus Flint. I play for the Falcons... but my vision is going. I've had the best healers working on my eyes for years now and the charms and potions don't tend to work well, if at all."

She wasn't terribly surprised to hear him snicker, a lot of people had no respect for what they reported in the Quibbler but at least she could sleep at night knowing it hadn't been written just to sell papers.

Hearing his name brought back memories of Flint she had been a first year during his last.

"Nice to meet you Marcus, I'm sorry to hear about your eyes. Did you know that the Helconia flower is being added to vision trials in Peru? I've heard very good things about the results."

"It's native there, innit?" He remembered that flower from Herbology, one of the only classes he actually did pretty good in. He didn't know about that, actually and the very idea that there were new things happening out there for eye healing was sort of good to hear.

"Nah, never heard tha' might mention it to my healer... they've all given up hope. Say my eyes have been messed with so much they're just rejecting anything thrown at them. S'not that I'll go blind but I might have to start wearing glasses and.."

And he didn't know why he was telling her any of that.

"Uh, sorry, who are you, again?"

Luna nodded pleased that he had remembered something from school. As she could recall back then Quidditch was the most important thing in his life.

"You should tell them or I would be happy to send over the research if you like." She offered.

Blinking in surprise Luna smiled. "Oh I'm Luna Lovegood, temporary editor of the Quibbler.

Luna fucking Lovegood. Of all the witches.. and he should've known, but Marcus was always poor at connecting the dots. He simply didn't have a brain fit for smart things such as getting the hint. Sometimes, if he was having a good day, but mostly he was pretty much oblivious.

"They're the... they should know. Anyway, I better get back to.. practicing," he stood trying not to be too terrible considering she was being a bit nice and not so terribly weird just yet.

Luna nodded, she did hope that his healers did know about the latest research, she would hate for Marcus to have to give up something he clearly loved.

"Good luck then, please tell your healers I would be happy to send them the latest research from Peru if they don't have contacts there themselves. I've recently returned from there."

"Yeah," he called back, already walking toward his hovering broom.

"Will do," and he resisted the urge to be a real prat and call her Loony. Honestly, sometimes the things he felt were easiest to do baffled him. Not that he thought her any less odd, but he didn't quite feel so compelled to have a laugh at her expense. The feeling left Marcus feeling strange, as did most of the events of recent that had passed.

He returned to the air with ease, though the rest of the time he kept glancing back toward where he might spot her, almost unaware of how much he kept looking.

[We can end it there if you'd like?]
