Who: Emma Dobbs and... ??
When: Sunday early evening.
Where: Closing up the shop so Diagon Alley
What: Deciding what she might do for the rest of the night!
Rating: With her mouth? Uh pg-13
Open/Closed: COMPLETE

See, what had happened was.. is that.. she couldn't be bothered to stay any longer and she just didn't give a flying snitch if the sun hadn't even gone down yet. Mr. Boss-Man gave her the keys and said (in a very stern voice despite the wheeze he had accumulated from a bad cough), "Close up. (COUGH HACK COUGH) put the deposit (HACK HACK WHEEEEEEZE)on me desk, love."

He never said when to close up though she knew she'd never hear the end of it tomorrow if one of the regulars tried to stop by only to find the shop closed rather than open late like it usually was. Ah, well, it wouldn't be the first time she got in trouble over something so ridiculous and it would certainly not be the last.

The sun was sinking low just as she slipped out of the shop and locked the door with a couple specialized charms and one rather normal lock. She pocketed her key and turned on her heel to face the longer end of Diagon Alley. Her hair was as gold as the lettering over the shop door but that wouldn't last. First, she would decide where to go (A butterbeer before home? A bit of light shopping?) and then she'd work a quick beauty charm on her long, golden curls.

Or.. or maybe she'd charm her hair first. Maybe she'd walk and charm, because honestly the day was dying and she needed to make a choice! Just as she fished her wand out and stepped down the street someone jostled into her in passing and caused her to poke her temple hard with the wand. Luckily she hadn't been focusing on a charm so nothing happened but it did hurt something fierce.

"OY! Watch it!"

He almost always did this. It was Sunday evening, he had just come off the day shift, he was tired, a bit cranky, and above all hungry, and yet ... nothing seemed very appetizing. He always walked past the Chinese takeaway as though there were some better option at the other end of the street, as though he wasn't simply going to turn back, pick up a huge tray of noodles, and go home to collapse on the sofa. He always ended up at the end of Diagon, confronted with the busy WWW storefront that meant he'd gone too far, and stood for a moment listening to the whispering guilt that told him he really should be eating better. And then he turned on his heel, defeated, and -

- And today he ran straight into someone's shoulder, knocking him off the pavement and into the street. He wasn't above passing by without apologizing, but moving along after getting snapped at was something else altogether. He could sometimes count on the Auror robes to keep people from bothering him, but they were nothing like foolproof.

"Maybe next time you don't point your wand in your face," he said, rolling his eyes and starting to walk around her. "If you're going to be standing in the middle of a crowded street, and all."

Had he not said a word, had he simply walked away with maybe a mumbled apology she would have said she was sorry too and parted ways amiable like. However, this particular wizard had the audacity to open his big gob and say something which only served to make the situation worse than it needed to be.

Slowly then, Emma turned on her heels to face him as he walked around her. The expression written across her face was one of obvious disdain with her eyebrows furrowed and lips pursed as if she had just eaten something sour. Her wand was clutched so tightly in her hand that her knuckles turned white. She spotted those robes but still didn't back off.

It was only when she noticed that particular shade of red atop his head that her expression softened. In fact, Emma's eyes (charmed a bright blue) widened and she smiled.

"Say! Is that charmed or natural? Your hair there?"

Had she known who she was speaking to she might not have asked, but being a bit oblivious at times to anything but herself, she hadn't a clue.

Ron stopped, looked over his shoulder at her, and turned with an incredulous and unimpressed expression. He would simply have been taken aback and a little, well ... weirded out, but he was a Weasley, and it wasn't as though no one had ever started in on him for being a ginger. "I don't charm my hair," he said, with obvious disapproval. It was probably stupid to feel defensive at the suggestion that he looked to be the sort of person who might charm his hair, but ... well, really. Was that what she had been trying to do, in the middle of Diagon Alley? Did people do that? "And you really shouldn't either, until you get inside." What if she had hit him, after all? It was hard to imagine being stuck with blond, or something.

Emma rolled her shoulders in a nonchalant shrug at the way he responded. Charming hair color wasn't for everyone, she supposed, but this gent didn't need it! He had fabulous coloring, didn't he know?

"Well, it really is fantastic.. I haven't quite fo- tch, fine, we'll take this inside. Come on then, and I have quite the proposition for you!"

Honestly, if he hadn't been wearing robes that set him apart as an Auror she might not have been to keen on doing what she did next. However, being he was what he was and she was just too interested in that bright red she went ahead and turned back to the nearby door of Odds and Ends. With a couple of quick unlocking charms and the use of the key she had shoved into her pocket the door was pushed open.

"Come on! I'm dying to try this new charm, it's fabulous, if I see a hair color I like it copies it and then I can use it on myself. I've tried red before but it always comes out too pink when I do it using my usual charms. It'll only take.. oh, maybe a minute, promise!"

If she was making fun of him, she was really going to a lot of trouble. The paranoid streak that had been beaten into him over the last three years told him that anyone who wanted to take him inside and perform any kind of spell on him was definitely up to no good, but his gut instinct was that she was simply crazy. He didn't need any training to recognize that. "You're mental," he said, standing his ground. He wasn't going in there. "Leave my hair alone. You want a color sample, you just walk right down the street and ask for Fred or George." He pointed to the next storefront over, the Weasley Wizard Wheezes flagship. "They've got much better hair. Promise. Not pink at all."

And they were both a bit mental, so it only stood to reason that they'd be better prepared to field a request to let a stranger point her wand at their heads.

Emma scrunched up her nose and huffed dramatically. Her hands went to her hips and she rolled those pretty blues.

"Yes, but... aren't you.. you know, an auror? Right?" she gestured to his robes. "Wouldn't you know if I was mental in a dangerous way? Besides.."

She peered beyond him to where he pointed, making another face as she did.

"Besides, they're sketchy sometimes, though that Weasley red is.." and then it hit her. She was SO daft sometimes that it was almost embarassing that she didn't realize it before. Weasley red. Auror. Wasn't that Ron Weasley, famous Harry Potter's best friend..... wasn't he a..?

"Bloody hell, you're Ron Weasley! Oh come on, now I have to have a sample! Please? It doesn't even hurt!"

"You might just be mental in a mental way," he muttered, even as he took his hand off of his wand, leaving it in his robes. He snorted appreciatively when she called his brothers sketchy, but didn't budge. He felt a little bad, because it was clear she was harmless, and she seemed nice enough, but it was the sort of thing that could easily come back to make his life miserable if certain brothers got wind of it. "Look, no offense, right, but I'm not going to have anyone walking around saying they're - wearing my hair." He paused. "Thanks, though," he said awkwardly. He guessed it was a compliment.

He did make an awfully good point, not that she was going to go parading around saying it was his color she wore but she had no problem saying it was "weasley red." If the twins did find out... well, they could only assume and she wasn't good about keeping things that she didn't think needed to be a secret.

"Well.. well.. dash it all," she looked sorely disappointed and did a fairly good job at pouting when he said thank you. Then, she smiled and set her wand to her head anyway.

"It's okay, I think, maybe seeing a red like yours will make mine turn out better. Let's see.."

The charm was simple enough for her, she performed it all the time, but the concentration had to be on the shade and the words spoken had to reflect the color she wanted. Her face screwed up as she did the charm and sure enough not ten seconds later a glimmer of color spread through her hair in one sweeping motion from root to tip.

It wasn't exactly his shade, but it wasn't half as pink as it used to be, but she had no mirror to look into either.

"How is this?"

"Pretty good," Ron replied, more relieved than impressed - although it did look about right, not that he had much of an eye for that sort of thing. "Couldn't call it pink, that's for sure. Well done." And he hadn't had to lift a finger, or let some stranger throw charms at him. If she was satisfied, he saw no reason to complain.

... That was no reason not to be a little sanctimonious, though. Just because he was very much off-duty didn't mean he couldn't fit in a little unwanted advice. "Still, you probably shouldn't go around stopping random people on the street and asking for hair colour. Not everyone's so obliging, you know."

She spun on her heels in an attempt to find a mirror and spotted an old stand up mirror framed in gold painted wood near the cashier's counter. Emma lifted a finger as if to say, 'hold on' and hurried off to view herself proper. Sure enough, the moment she got a glance she was in love.

Never had red looked quite so good! Emma fingered a strand and bit her lip before practically squealing out of pure delight.

"Ugh, this looks so damned GOOD!"

Emma returned to him, clapping her hands together. "Maybe, but, this turned out to be a good experience, aye? Sorry if you were like... busy and interrupted things."

Ron paused, not quite sure what to do about being told to hold on a minute by a total stranger - but it hda the desired effect. He waited, watching, somewhere between offended and amused.

When she shouted, he jumped. What the hell?

"No," he said, taking a slow step back. "No, it's - fine. Don't worry about it. Looks good. - You have a good evening. Mental," he added under his breath as he edged away from the shop.

Emma released him with a flourish of her hand in the air, a small wave and a blown kiss (because doing as such was divine, in her opinion, so she did this often these days).

"Ta, darling, you've done me a great service!"

Then, Emma returned to that mirror to play with her freshly red curls, smile wide set and eyes bright with how enchanted she was with herself.
