Neville gave the little girl a look, and thought to take the cake out of the bag but quickly changed his mind, deciding that it could wait.
"She's kind of quiet," he said as he moved back to where Hannah stood, and he squatted down, "Her name is Livey? Hello, Livey. I'm Neville. I'm friends with your mum," he said, turning his head to look up at Hannah with a small smirk, "Not much of a friend, to lose track of her," he added as he rose, standing taller than Hannah. It was strange. He couldn't remember being quite so much taller than her and supposed that he had grown since they'd last met.
"Can I get you something to drink? I think it will be a few more minutes before the food is ready. I do have some snacks though," he said, feeling a strange sense of shyness around her that made him realize she was the first girl he'd had over to his flat, ever, besides his Gran. He didn't really have company over too much, with his long work days and early morning hours. But all of that was going to change a bit, once the school term began. He felt glad to have the chance to meet with her before he moved there, to the school. Here, he was on his own turf.
