Who: Draco & Theo
What: Scene Lottery! A bet is made, and someone ends up owing someone else more than they have at the moment
When: Later that day...
Where: Janus Thickey ward
Rating/Warning: Crazy!Theo, sadness!discussion

Another day, another battle of the lunch hour and Theo once again had battle scars after the fight. He'd lost this time, as he usually did, but he'd bitten an orderly before they'd managed to hex him and he'd managed to get his lip split for his trouble, mostly by accident. Mostly; the staff at St Mungo's were trained, but people had their limits and few could put up with getting bitten, especially by the spawn of a Death Eater, even more so when the patient's father had been directly responsible for the death of this orderly's grandparents.

Theo hated being fed and he hated that they stopped him from throwing up too. It hurt to do so, but he still bent over himself like he'd had his stomach ripped out and retched and gagged like if he did it long enough it would counter the potion and let him throw up; it never worked like that.

His mind swirled at times like these, the trauma of what he'd been through acting like a stick in a pond with a silt bottom, stirring up the dark drifts into clouds in his head and leaving him unsettled until they settled down by themselves. He curled himelf up into a small ball on his bed, whimpering; he missed Greg, even if he couldn't really remember who that was.

The first thing Draco had been informed of when he'd arrived was the incident at lunch time, and before he even went to the room he filed a formal complaint with the orderlies department Head. The ought to be better able to control themselves, difficult patient or no.

It was, then, half an hour or so later, after he was almost sure the man would at least be demoted if not fired, that he came to the room and had another orderly let him in.

Seeing Nott on the bed, he realized this visit was likely not going to go any better than his last few had.

"Theo?" He asked crisply, standing with his back to the newly closed door.

Theo jumped at the sound of his name, the other voice unexpected in his thoughts right then, cutting through the fog of his crazy for a second like a ship in the night.

"Draco?" he almost echoed back, turning onto his back a little to better see who this was. He lay on the bed, fingering over his injury and flicked a glance to a space beside him before looking hesitantly, almost nervously back at Draco, clearly asking him to sit down.

Draco looked almost surprised for a moment, it wasn't always a given that Theodore would remember his name. But he nodded, agreeing that yes, he was himself, and then moved at the invitation to sit down at the edge of the bed.

His hand brushed a piece of non-existent lint from the long sleeve of his black shirt. "You've hurt your lip," he said, looking Nott over.

Theo seemed happier, a little more thawed, a little less distant, at the close proximity to someone living, a warm little centre in his cold room, and he shifted, turning towards Draco like a flower to the sun.

He licked at the wound like he hadn't noticed it was there, then nodded. "He won't let me fix it." he said solemnly but strangely blank, like there was a block in his mind somewhere that stopped him feeling anything about what he thought had happened.

Draco was not a Healer, but something like a cut was easy enough and he arched an eyebrow, meeting Nott's eyes. "Would you like me to fix it then?" he was well aware that Nott wasn't allowed his wand.

Theo looked away from the direct eye contact, biting into the cut in his lip and making it bleed, lapping at the sluggishly welling blood. "He won't, won't let me, won't, won't let me..." he murmured, his voice quiet with fear.

He rubbed his finger against the bleeding cut and then traced a shape on the wall, some old, dark, Bavarian magic that might as well have been tic-tac-toe.

Draco looked at the rune, and he thought it looked familiar - something scratched into stone in his memory - but he couldn't place it. He did take out his wand, though. "Nott, turn this way and let me heal your lip." He tried to sound even, not commanding. He wasn't a Healer, didn't need Nott to start thinking of him that way.

Theo froze when he saw the wand, cringing back until he was pressed against the wall like a frightened cat, eyes fixed on the wand.

"No... no..." he said softly, swallowing hard. "I don't want to. I don't want to. Make it stop, make it stop." he said, shaking his head vigorously. "No, NO!" he yelped, and god knew where his mind was.

Draco held up his hand, flat, nonthreatening, and tucked his wand away with his other in a rushed sort of movement. "Alright, alright." He said quickly. "Sit there and bleed."

Theo flinched at the held out hand, despite the non-threatening nature of the gesture, and shuddered as the wand disappeared, visibly calming down. He licked at his lip, brought his fingers to it and then held them out to see.

He turned them around to face Draco, the tips smeared with blood. "This is what happens when you don't keep him happy." he said, ominously.

"Him?" Draco asked, evenly, but curious. Even if he'd been told what had happened, hearing Nott's version might be a bit better indicator of what he should expect from him once he was out of this place.

Theo stopped, his hand still up, palm facing Draco like some strange Buddhist greeting, the tips losing the shine as the blood on his fingers dried, his tongue slipping out, peeking out to lap at the small amount of blood leaking from his mouth like a kid with lolly running down it's chin.

The way he was watching Draco was far removed from anything so carefree. "Keep him happy." Theo said, his tone low, quiet, intent and too serious. "Because..." he added, curling his fingers, bringing his loosely made fist to his chest, leaning in to the person who had once been a kind of friend - "..because, the things he does to you when you don't."

Draco often wondered just what it was that Theodore's father had done to terrorize him, to get him so close to the breaking point that one horrible act would turn him into this mess of a man he was now.

Times like this, he was glad he didn't know. He stood tense and straight, abiding Nott leaning against him this way only because he knew the man didn't understand that you did not lean against him this way.

"Well, he can't do anything to you now," he pointed out.

If Theo noticed the stiffness in Draco's posture he didn't show it - he was either ignoring it or he was just that oblivious to it, somewhere or somewhen else.

He shook his head no, agreeing with his friend. "No, no because, because we keep him nice, yes, always, always be a, a good boy..." he stammered, his blood staind fingertips moving, almost of their own accord, to pet haphazardly at Draco's chest.

Draco bit his lip for a moment, steeling himself to keep back what he'd say to anyone but Astoria being so familiar with touching him. Nott meant nothing by it - that didn't make it any less likely to set his teeth on edge.

"Yes, I suppose." He said, and then thought of something he hadn't tried before, "Or, there is another option."

Finally feeling the stillness in Draco's posture, Theo stopped touching him but didn't move back, frozen himself against Draco. The things he was thinking weren't pleasant or really conducive to the desire to stay close like this, but at the same time, the idea of moving away made him feel too vulnerable to try.

"Another option?" Theo echoed, meaning behind it this time instead of just echolaila.

"Well, you could leave this place." Draco noticed the more present tone behind Theo's voice, and if he was closer to cognizant now, Draco was happy to use that to his advantage. "The Headmaster is happy to take you back to Hogwarts, to stay with Goyle in his cabin there..."

"Leave?" Theo said, snapped almost, confused by the mention of Greg in a cabin? Why would Greg be in a cabin?

"I can't leave... this is my head. I can't get out, the walls will all collapse, everything will collapse."

"Yes, but wouldn't you rather be at Hogwarts? Your head was at least a bit freer there, yes? Less likely to collapse..." Or at least it had been, before the bit at the end.

Theo whined a low unhappy sound at the thought of the school, his memories too hashed up to make any kind of sense but missing it nonetheless.

The look he gave Draco was slightly desperate. "Can we take my head along?"

"I suppose," Draco said, and the corners of his mouth twitched up in something that was almost a genuine smile. "You'd not do very well without it, would you?"

Theo's pulse and breathing quickened, the crazy mind not liking the thought of the consequences at all. "They'd burn him." he said, referring to himself but not. "If you ever leave it and all the words spill out, if other people hold them and know, they tie him on a cartwheel and beat him with sticks, set him on fire and burn him tumbling alive." he shuddered, turning his face in against Draco's arm and seemingly trying to hide there.

The smile faded. Draco resisted the urge to roll his eyes, instead. He'd thought he'd been making some headway. "Well, we can make a wager, then, to keep that from happening."

Theo still tried to huddle in to Draco but the comment confused him. "A wager? They won't pay for him." he said, but he was clearly unsure as to what was going on.
