Characters: Sam Capper and Heath Barbary (Open to Gid as well if he's got anything to add)
Setting: Thursday night at the White Horse Inn in Keswick, Cumbria.
Summary: Sam's got a hometown gig with a couple big ol' Rock Stars stopping in.
Rating: PG. A few drinks, nothing too crazy, even if it does involve a couple Weird Sisters.

Giving a little wave of gratitude and a thank you, Sam hopped off the ledge that sufficed as the pub’s stage and made a beeline for the bar. Even if the White Horse didn’t have much in the way of a formal stage set up, Martin had made sure to rig up a few lights pointed right at the tiny platform. They weren’t real theatrical lights but it was more than enough, coupled with the summer heat, to make her want to melt after a couple hours. The promise of a large, cold pint had never sounded more appealing.

She stashed her case under the bar before she popped around to the other side, priority one taken care of. Leaning on the scrubbed wood bar to shout an order for a pint of cider, Sam turned and glanced around the pub, looking for Ginny and her usual entourage. A few regulars stopped next to her, giving her the usual encouragement and round of ‘Good Set’ which she accepted with a smile and raise of her glass when she set it down. “Cheers, Tip,” she called out to the bartender, laying down a fiver before hopping off the stool to find her mates.

"Classy," Heath said from the barstool next the one she'd just hopped off of. Gideon was off drinking, but Heath had moved up closer as she finished up the set, and waited for what looked like the pub regulars to get their compliments in before he caught her attention. She looked ready to rush off, though, so he figured he should get his in before she did.

Turning back around, Sam blinked as she realised who'd been beside her. "I'm a classy bird," she countered, smirking happily. She took a step back toward him and leaned against the bar, setting the pint down after a sip. She hadn't really thought he'd actually show up, he was a rock star. She didn't know what that was like but she was sure they didn't often frequent places like the White Horse.

Heath had discovered over the night, actually, that he missed this part of things - just hanging about it clubs where no one knew you and feeling the music while someone tried to make it. It wasn't always like that when you were playing sold out concerts. "Right, I meant the tip, though. Must have been half of what you made from your own jar." He grinned though, taking a drink of his draft and then shrugging. "It was a good set."

"He's a great bartender," Sam said, trying to hold in a smile as she wondered whether to explain that the man was actually named Tip. "Everyone leaves him that much. You should be sure to." She took another sip and tried again, with less success this time, to hold in another grin. "Yeah? This crowd isn't too hard to please."

I fail.

"Oh, I intend to." Heath said with a laugh, he'd already tipped the man well, for a normal muggle at least. He could afford more, if he kept drinking. "You play places like this often, then." It wasn't really a question. "I miss that a bit."

"Yeah, few different places here and there, few times a month," she explained, taking a swig. Sam chuckled softly but waved away the feeling that she should make a joke of some sort over dingy pubs and hecklers. But she honestly loved what she did. "I love nights like this," she agreed, glancing around the pub. "Good crowd, good energy."

"No one screaming and trying to rip your clothes off, so that you get to actually finish songs..." Heath trailed out, finishing the thought with his own twist and then laughing. "Not that I'm complaining all that much about the clothes ripping. It's most of the time a benefit of the gig. But I do miss this sort of thing."

Sam snorted, glad she didn't have a mouthful of cider to choke on. "Yeah, I don't think that bit is too likely to happen here," she mused, looking around the typical, varied crowd. Her eyes landed on her table of friends and she smirked, sure she could convince the lot to storm the stage and at least Ginny to try and rip her clothes off. "Might be good for tips though," she pointed out. "Probably be the most exciting thing here all week. Month even. I know it seems wild," she lowered her voice as if whispering conspiratorially and winked. "Don't be fooled."

"You mean there's not an orgy later?" Heath's eyebrows arched a little, and he tried to look skeptical. "That really disappoints my view of you, Capper, you know that? Here I thought you were on the fast track to being a wild rock star."

"Didn't say there wasn't an orgy later," Sam joked, waggling her eyebrows. "Just prefer to carry on my drunken, sexual shenanigans in private. Less interruptions that way." She nodded and tried to keep a straight face when the thought that she was actually carrying on a conversation about where and when to have orgies with Heath Barbary of the Weird Sisters settled in for her and she snorted with laugher. "Sorry," she coughed, grinning widely.

If he hadn't actually been paying attention to some of the things written about her in those journals, Heath might have thought she was coming on to him - invited her to having those shenanigans in private with him - but he got the feeling it wouldn't be welcome, and he was far more interested in her music, anyway.

"So, no aspirations to move past the pub scene, then? I mean, who would give all this up?"

"I like it," she said with a shrug, answering honestly. She played pubs because they were there and because without them she'd just be sitting at home playing for Ginny and the dog. She loved preforming and sharing her music but she did what she did for the music first off and not any aim at fame. "Honestly? I've never thought much about it. I figure if it's meant to happen, I guess it'll happen. I'm just glad I get the chance to play for others, you know?"

"Well, if you had the opportunity?" Heath sounded like he was feeling her out for something, and he didn't really try to hide that. "We may be thinking something up, for artists that aren't getting their due, just starting out, that sort of thing..."

Sam opened her mouth to respond but paused, slowly realising that there might be a little more to what Heath was saying than idle curiosity. She took a sip of her cider and thought about it. "What sort of something?" While she stood by the assertion she played for the love of music and thought if she was meant to go further it would happen she wasn't dim enough to miss the It when it might actually be Happening.

"Don't know," Heath shrugged. "It was just something we'd talked about. Contest or something for an opening act for us when we go on tour next year, maybe? Or for some of the open shows we've got in the works. We're under new management, now, so we've got more chances to do things like that. You should keep it in mind. Get a band together or something."

Sam's eyes darted over to her table, glancing at Morag at the thought of a band. She greatly enjoyed playing with her mates, Jack and Morag, but she'd never thought of it as more than just that, jamming. She liked playing solo, free to do her thing just as she liked. It dawned on her that the others' thinking might not be along the same lines and she nodded slowly. "How's it going to work?" she asked, sipping her drink as curiosity got the better of her.

Heath shrugged and sat his empty down on the bar. "No idea, yet, it's just an idea we've been tossing around. Or I've been tossing around, really, since I saw you playing in the park. Figured since you made me think about it, I'd tell you it's coming first."

"Aw," Sam smirked and waved at him lightly. "I feel so bloody special!" Snickering, she down her cider and pushed the glass aside, leaning back against the bar, taking up space easily. "I can save you all that hassle and just tell you now we're your first place, for sure." Never mind there was no actual band yet...that was secondary!

Heath laughed easily at that, nodding. "I've been warned, then," he said, then shrugged. "Seriously though, do you have a group you play with? Don't know we'd have a solo act to open for us."
