What: Scene Lotto! Maisie thinks ~~Sevy~~ her former professor is a sexy-beast for about 3 hours.

As a treat for having worked the past Saturday, Maisie was fortunate enough to take Tuesday off. It felt slightly odd to work one day and then take off, but they were already going to be short staffed on Wednesday, so she figured that she might as well take the reprieve while she could get it. With little planned, she decided it was as good a day as any to slip into Hogsmeade and pay a visit to her favorite candy shop in the world. She was running low on a few things, and it simply wouldn’t do. She needed Honeyduke’s chocolate, because no other in the world was quite the same.

Being so close to Hogwarts made her a bit reminiscent, and perhaps a little sad as well. She missed that castle sometimes, and all of the good times that she’d had there, even with all the bad mixed in. Still, it was hard to be in bad spirits when she was surrounded by the shelves of candy that guaranteed tonight she would be in a sugar-coma. She made her purchases wisely and even spend a little time chatting with the shopkeeper, just for the hell of it.

Walking back out onto the street, Maisie was a bit distracted as she rummaged through her candy bag, searching out a peppermint toad. Then again, paying attention to where she was going wasn’t Maisie’s finest attribute. With so few people milling around though, what harm could come of it?

Transporting Gongronema concentrate was always a tricky business. It was volatile under any circumstances - prone to violent sublimation upon exposure to pewter and highly unpredictable behavior when combined with the more aromatic Lamiaceae - but most troublesome at the moment was its tendency to react rather explosively with Floo powder. Severus, having allowed himself to borrow a couple of bottles of it from Horace's stores, had planned to ferry it safely home through Apparition. But Horace had a habit of storing everything in those silly glass-stopper decanters that were good for nothing but catching the light and leaking, and the prospect of Apparating with them (and the very serious mess that might result in his own parlor) had dissuaded him. Rebottling and magically sealing also posed more risk than he was willing to take, and so he was reduced to walking it all through Hogsmeade, guarding the bottles in the crook of his arm while trying to navigate the High Street without being jostled.

He should have been able to manage, too - the usual knot of people that always seemed to fill the pavements outside of the most popular strip of shops was nowhere to be found. But - as always - it only took one idiot child to muck things up beyond repair, and it was while he was trying not to step on a greedy little toddler making a dash for Honeyduke's that he crashed into the young woman standing just outside the door and the light tingling started on his arm where the Gongronema had soaked the better part of his sleeve - and quite a bit of her, too.

"Watch where you're going," he snapped, rearing back and juggling the one surviving bottle as he pulled out his wand to dry the stuff out of his clothes. He was more concerned with preserving what he could than with helping her; she'd be all right, provided she wasn't carting around any pewterware, mint extracts or Floo powder. "If you can't wait half a minute to stuff your face with those, Miss Cattermole, you might do it inside rather than waiting to be tripped over in the street like some daft troll."

Just as she'd taken a bite of her peppermint toad she found herself slamming into a not-so-soft object that nearly made her fall over. It took her a moment to realize that she'd run into a person, and that he had an eerily familiar voice. Her primary concern, however, was that she seemed to be wet with something. It was all over her hand that had been holding the peppermint toad, though she'd dropped it on impact. Still, she had a bit of the minty center on her fingers and whatever the stuff was that had been spilled on her...she felt strange. It tingled and something didn't seem quite right. Although, she had to react when the phrase "daft troll" caught her attention.

She sounded appropriately reproachful as she said, "I am not a daft..." but the tone lost effect as she looked up and saw his face. She was pretty sure if she was a cartoon, her jaw would be on the floor, tongue rolled out, while her eyes turned to hearts. She recognized him as Severus Snape, her former Professor, but bloody hell...why had she never noticed before how sexy he was? She felt her heart suddenly stutter as she gazed up into those fathomless black eyes of is, "Holy pants of Merlin..." She wanted to swoon. She'd never been in such close contact with someone that looked like...a freaking Greek god or something before. He looked so much more handsome than she remembered. She grinned at him adoringly, "You're incredibly attractive, did you know that?"

Severus drew up, his lip curling as he bit back the knee-jerk twenty points from Gryffindor that was his usual response to improper language. But before he could formulate a more appropriate reply, her face had split into a grin, which took him aback - and then his face went even whiter than usual in a sudden flare of anger.

"And you," he sneered, contemptuously kicking away the lump of candy she'd dropped, "are incredibly -"

He cut off; out of the corner of his eye he saw the half-eaten toad skitter into the gutter, and his mouth tightened into a line. Merlin's pants, indeed. He grabbed her wrist and inspected her hand - contaminated - and let go as though he'd been burnt. He wasn't going to touch the stuff. "Go home," he said, his voice tight and his eyes flashing. "And have yourself a few cups of tea, and for heaven's sake stay inside." With that he made to push past her, rolling his eyes, unsure whether he was more irritated with Horace, Cattermole, or himself. Horace - it was absolutely Horace's fault.

He was touching her. He touched her! Sure, it was only at the wrist, but why would he lay a hand on her if he didn't like her, right? Even when he was scowling, he just looked so handsome. She'd describe him as a brooding, mysterious man later in her diary. There was always something attractive to her about older guys too. Maybe not quite as many years older as he was, but still, there was a first time for everything, right? He was giving her advice, but it wasn't the advice that she wanted to hear. In fact, it just made her stubborn streak flare.

She took a few quick steps after him, falling in by his side, "But I don't want to go home! I want to stay here with you. You're amazing and even though you don't smile much, you're just so handsome," she smiled goofily, brushing some of her long hair out of her face, "I'm not your student anymore, Severus. It's okay."

Severus turned on her, blocking her way, and did his best to loom over her with as threatening an expression as he could muster; this was not a problem he had tackled before. He clutched the bottle to his chest. "Headmaster," he corrected her - student or not - and took one menacing step forward. "No, you're not. Which means I won't need to explain myself to anyone terribly important should something happen to you. Which it will, I assure you, if you don't turn around this instant and let me be. You're making a fool of yourself. Go."

But he wasn't sure what he would do, really, if she refused. He could hardly act on his threats in public, and he would rather have swallowed the entire contents of the bottle he was holding than let her follow him home, even to whip up an antidote. This must have been what it felt like to be at a loss. How novel.

While other people may have seen his expression as menacing, Maisie found it to be smoldering. You know, the good kind that happens right before the tension breaks loose in a romance novel and the guy carries his maiden off and shags her like a madwoman. It slipped her mind that he was the Headmaster, but as he pointed it out, she couldn't help but smile a little bit more. She wondered if he was into that kinky stuff. She could dig out her old school uniforms. Oh, and he was coming closer, "What's going to happen to me, Headmaster?" She asked, though her tone wasn't exactly innocent. Was it just her, or was he close enough to kiss?

Severus' eyes narrowed. Threats weren't going to work - he would have to try to sort this out in some way that didn't end in cursing her all the way down the street. She was obviously quite hopeless, and he couldn't stand around trying to reason with her when there was nothing to reason with in the first place. He could feel his face starting to burn out of irritation, sheer irritation.

"Listen to me," he said, straightening and glancing away - he was very good at reading faces, and there were some things he emphatically did not want to read. "Here's what you're going to do: you're going to go sit in - in the Three Broomsticks," where at least she wouldn't have her pocket picked, which was always something of a risk at the Hog's Head, "and you're going to wait. Do you understand? Three hours." He held up three fingers, just in case. If she wanted to assume he'd be coming back to join her, that was all to the good. Let her come to her senses alone.

She couldn't help it. Maisie clung to his every word as though it were a life-line. As if every word he spoke would be the most important word she would ever hear. So he was going to meet her in the Three Broomsticks, then? That wouldn't be so bad. That's were lots of couples had dates at Hogwarts. Oh, was it a date? Waiting there for three hours seemed a little extensive, but maybe there was something he really needed to do. Or maybe he thought she was beautiful too and was going to take those three hours to do something really special for her.

Her expression when she looked at him was perhaps a bit too trusting, but she didn't care, "Okay...and then you'll come meet me, right? Do you promise?" She wasn't going to go without a promise, not when she had him right here, right now. She'd trust him though, if he said he would. His words were golden.

"Absolutely," he said at once, with genuine relief. "I'll be sure to come as soon as I possibly can - if you wait, like I've asked you." He would even risk being seen and walk her to the door, he decided; it was only across the street and a few storefronts down, and had the added advantage of being the opposite direction from his house. And unless something had gone terribly, terribly wrong, the potion ought to wear off in a matter of hours. If it didn't ... well, he would most certainly first to know, wouldn't he. "This way." He extended his hand across the street, as if to show the way, and started off.

And if he saw anyone he knew on the way home, he was bloody well Obliviating them, no questions asked.

Once he'd promised to meet her, she had no qualms about parting ways with him, not really. She just had something to look forward to! Maybe while she waited she'd find someone to talk to, or she'd drink some tea like he had suggested earlier. She looked at her watch and noted when three hours would have passed, and then followed the path he had pointed out to her. Though, she couldn't help but call back towards him once she was at the door, "I'll see you in three hours, Sevy!" And then she disappeared into the pub to wait for the most handsome man on the face of the planet...oh, that Severus Snape.
