Who: Caine & Rose
Where: Baker St Tube stop and the The Sherlock Holmes Museum
What: First Meetings
When: Thursday afternoon
Rating: PG?

Caine had arrived about a half hour early from when he'd told Rose they'd meet. In part because he wanted to have a good vantage point when she arrived, a chance to evaluate the girl and see if she'd really suit his purposes, and be able to slip away if she didn't suit his fancy. That and he'd been telling the truth, for the most part. He really did like to people watch.

He'd dressed carefully, in casual, but expensive Muggle clothing, in his customary greys and blacks. There was a small diamond stud in his left earlobe and a heavy silver ring on his right ring finger but otherwise he was bare of jewelry. Something that always secretly amused him, considering how many pieces of it he actually owned.

He found a good spot by one of the large concrete pillars, out of the way of the main foot traffic, with a good view of the entrance and the small food carts and proceeded to patiently wait.

Rose arrived just a few minutes late, because there had been some sort of electrical problem on Circle line and she'd had to take the long way around. She came out into the large open area of the tube station with a smile, though, and started looking around for him.

She was wearing a long flowy skirt and sandals, because this was the only time of year you could get away with it, and a simple pink tank. But the flower in her hair that she'd said would be there as bright and noticeable.

He was starting to get just a slight bit annoyed when she was running late. That was going to have to change. He liked punctuality. When she did arrive though, she was hard to miss. She was prettier then he'd expected, which was a pleasant surprise. The air of innocence was definitely there as well, although time would tell if she was putting it on or not.

Potential, he thought. This one had definite potential to be entertaining.

Straightening, he went the around about way to approach her, moving with the flow of the crowds, so that he came up behind her before he spoke, just barely loud enough to be heard over the crowds of people. "I was starting to worry you'd changed your mind."

She'd been looking the other direction, and she jumped a bit at the voice so close behind her, spinning that way. "Caine?" She asked, but then before he could answer, because who else would he be, she rushed into her apology.

"There was an electrical something on Circle line. I had to go in circles to get back onto another line and ugh..." She giggled a little, something nervous in it but mostly happy. "Sorry! You haven't been waiting long, have you?"

He nodded at her question about his identity, but then she was rushing into an apology and he smiled faintly. "No, not long," he lied smoothly. "Besides, even if I had, look at the excellent crowds I had for people watching today. I would have been quite entertained. You're here now. You look quiet lovely. Very summery."

"Oh, thank you..." she blushed, and she knew it, but Rose had always blushed easily and she wasn't used to compliments from boys, really. "So do you. Handsome, I mean. Oh, Merlin, I'm an idiot, alright, we might get that out of the way. Sometimes I just... talk..." She laughed at herself, then looked around the area. "There are some excellent people to watch. Should we stay for a bit, or go to the museum first?"

He may as well get her used to the idea of deferring to him now. He smiled, and took her arm. "There's nothing wrong with talking. How else am I going to get to know you? You're not an idiot either. I don't waste my time with idiots," he pointed out with a smile. "Museum first. Then, if it's boring, we always have people watching to fall back on."

Rose wasn't a leader by nature, though, and deferring to him came as easily as breathing in this sort of situation. She smiled as he took her arm, and let him turn her and start toward the exists. "Sounds brilliant."

"Yes, well I do that often, you'll get used to it," he said with a teasing tone to his voice, leading her towards the station exit so they could get outside and get their bearings. "So how is the job hunt coming?"

"You do brilliant things often?" Rose giggled a little, "That's a little stuck up of you, you know. And not really fair, not giving other people a chance to be brilliant." At the mention of the job, she frowned a little, gave a tight little shrug. "Not really coming at all yet."

He grinned at her. "I'm afraid so. Terribly selfish of me, I know. I just don't seem to be able to help it. I try to do better, but I just don't share well."

"Hmmm, well, I'm sure something will come up. You seem rather enthused about books the other day, Flourish and Blotts isn't hiring?"

"Well, I don't really fancy the idea of standing behind a counter all day. Besides, I'm only enthused about silly books..." She shrugged again, then looked around the street and pointed off to the right. "I think it's that direction."

"What do you fancy then? What were your favorite subjects at Hogwarts?" He had no problem using his connections to getting her something she liked. It was one more way to tie her to him.

"You're right. See? Not an idiot at all." He headed in that direction, keeping her tucked against his side. She was taller then his usual, he tended to lean towards the petite, but he found he liked that she was nearly his height. It would make some things... interesting to try.

"Well, maybe I was hard on myself." She smiled up at him, her head came to his shoulder and that felt natural, really, made walking with him like this feel a little more even.

"Well, I liked charms, and astronomy. Favourites, astronomy and runes, I suppose. Oh, and herbology, of course, except for digging around in the dirt so much."

"Hmmm. You might consider curse-breaking. Or charm making." He smiled. "Never really saw much use for astronomy myself."

He took her around another corner, as they headed down the street. "Did you want to maybe grab dinner afterwards?"

"I think what really always was fun for me were the stories that went behind astronomy. Not so much the maths, I mean, I can do it, but the fun is just laying out and watching things, knowing all the theories behind how they got there and what they mean..." She trailed off with another soft laugh and shrugged. "Maybe it's silly."

Then her brain caught up, and she realised he was asking about dinner. "Oh." She said, surprised, first, then quickly added. "I'd love to. But, you don't have to, or anything."

"Its not silly at all actually. It was the only thing that made the class something I could stay awake during. What about hobbies that you enjoy?" He slid a glance towards her. "You not one of those girls who saw themselves as a housewife for a career, are you?"

He grinned. "I know I don't have to. I rarely do anything I don't want to. So, I want to."

"Oh no," She giggled and blushed a little at the housewife comment, rolling her eyes. "I think you have to have a boyfriend before you can be a housewife, anyway, and I'm not nearly posh enough to think I can laze about all day. Wouldn't that be nice?" She laughed again, then found herself blushing even deeper. "Then yes, dinner sounds like it would be nice."

Caine choked on a laugh and shook his head. "Muggle housewives, maybe, although I wouldn't think so considering how they can't use magic to get things done. And most of the wives in pureblood circles have charities and hostessing events and such to keep them more then busy. I'm not sure they get to laze about, they just get to look as if they do."

He laughed. "Well, you'll get used to that too, probably. I have, according to my little brother, an annoyingly persistent habit of being right entirely too often for his comfort. I also tend to be a bit smug about it, too. Although mostly to get him riled up. He's a lot of fun when he wants to punch me."

"He graduated in 99, Weston Harper? Technically, he's my stepbrother, but our parents married when we were both really young, so none of us make the distinction except when people start asking why we don't have the same name."

"He's a git anyways. You didn't miss much," he said breezily, with a teasing grin.

"Here we are then," he said with a smile as they walked up to the building which housed the museum. "Not a lot of crowding so that's good. I hate being rushed through these sorts of things, I like to look at my own leisure."

"And the crowds are always the rudest tourists," Rose said with a nod. "They feel entitled to push about since they're paying more to be here, or something."

There was, as always a line outside the museum, but it was short and Caine decided he could afford to be patient and wait in it. It gave him more time to talk to Rose and get to know her better anyways. The girl was sweet, but he wasn't sure just how much she had going on under the pretty face.

"Depends on where they're from really. I usually find the Yanks to be the worse. Very shovey."

Rose didn't mind standing in line. She wasn't sure how he'd have gotten them out of it, and smiled easily when he settled into the queue beside her.

"Oh, absolutely. Though, they can be fun to watch, too. They have such loud rows sometimes when they're lost."
