She headed down the hallway with a merry air, vaguely noticing those that passed her by – if there were anyone in the first place. A Weird Sisters song had somewhere between leaving the Lake and arriving at the front steps of Hogwarts invaded her mind with its contagious tune; she was soon humming its cheery, catchy tune in tempo with her steps. This little dance stopped abruptly, however, with the bumping into of a very good friend.
Luna recognized the less than regal air of The Boy Who Lived immediately, interrupting her march with a quick brake. “Harry!” she exclaimed, and face alight, she ran towards him and threw her arms around his neck in an affectionate greeting, the complacent smile transformed into one of genuine but not at all unwanted surprise. She was thoroughly pleased to see her friend, and even more pleased to see that all his limbs were still attached and functioning.
A thought which she voiced aloud: “It’s terribly nice to see you again,” she said. “And I’m glad to see that you haven’t lost any visible appendages. That would be quite unfortunate, though I’m sure the pathos would not at all mind.” The bright smile that had earlier lit her face upon his arrival dimmed back down to her normal one of passive meditation. She was pleased to find that the orange was having a positive effect on everything and everyone, including Harry himself; perhaps she should consider wearing orange everyday, and replace her odd assortment of corks and caps with tangerine orange peels. This would warrant further investigation into the defensive and luck-bringing properties of the colour.
To his question she had a brief and simple answer: "Good, thank you. The weather has never been quite so pleasant, and I enjoy my classes a lot. And how are you doing?” She noticed dreamily that he seemed tired – but then again, the boy charged with the job of saving the world is always tired. Still, Luna was not so unwise as to discuss these sensitive details in the open where an unfriendly ear may overhear; she kept her thoughts to herself.
