Who: Rose and Maisie
What: Apartment Hunt
Where: Maisie's apartment
When: Wednesday night
Rating: Friendly!

Rosie was super excited to see Maisie again, but she was far more excited to get out of her mum's house long enough to go and look at a flat. Her mum had almost looked like she was going to cry when Rose had told her what she was doing that day, though. Still, she couldn't let that pressure her. She had to find somewhere else to live!

She followed the directions Maisie had given carefully, and found herself outside the door around dinner time. She knocked, hoping Maisie was home. It would be so silly to have to go home with nothing to tell her mum.

It was slowly dawning on Maisie that she really didn’t get out enough. She spent almost every evening in with her owl and her dog, but nothing exciting ever seemed to happen to her. She had been excited by the prospect when Rose said that she was looking for a roommate. She remembered her from school, and though they hadn’t seen each other much lately, surely she was still the same sweet girl. She would really just about make the perfect roommate. Plus, it would put Alfie’s mind at ease. Her brother didn’t like her living alone and she thought he was more worried than ever that she might start keeping random blokes in her flat just to get under his skin.

She had just finished her dinner and whipped up some brownies when she heard a knock on the door. She wondered if Rose would be hungry, or if she’d eaten already. She had cleaned up the place the previous evening, though it never really got out of hand in the first place. Maisie wasn’t a neat-freak, per say, but she was fairly tidy, and she didn’t have much clutter. With Lego, her Jack Russell, bouncing along beside her, she went to answer the door with a smile. She pulled it open with a broad grin, “Hey! I was hoping you could make it,” she greeted, stepping aside so that Rose could come in, “This is Lego. I hope you’re not allergic to dogs...or owls, for that matter,” Maisie said almost sheepishly. She felt a little bad for not mentioning them before.

"Hi - Oh!" Rose barely had a chance to say hello before the dog had her attention. "Oh, no, he's adorable! I love dogs!" She and owls had had their issues over the years, she'd just never really gotten used to them, but dogs were a totally different story. "My parents never let me have one of my own, but oh, he's so cute!" She bent over and scratched behind his ears, watching his tail wagging away. It was another minute or so before she came in and tried to focus on the human in the room, rather than the canine. "Anyway, hi! This place is great!"

Seeing that Lego seemed to rather like Rose made Maisie happy. That was the first step in making this work, she supposed, having at least most everyone in the house get along, "Well, Lego will be more than happy to let you play with him, I'm sure. I love animals, so I'm always tempted to get more, but I've resisted thus far," she commented, as Rose scratched Lego's ears. She did notice that the other girl said nothing about owls, however, so she decided to add in a short bit, "My owl, Grumpy, he usually stays to himself quite a bit, so you shouldn't worry about him."

When Rose acknowledged Maisie in another hello, however, she gave a slight, friendly laugh, "And you haven't even seen the whole of it yet! But I do like it here. It's been a couple years since I got this place, and I've been happy with it so far. The neighbors are fairly nice for the most part, a bit nosy, but nice, and the view's not too bad. There's a park nearby, and a grocery that's within walking distance too, so it's a nice location," she shrugged a little, "I'll show you around! But before I do, would you like a brownie? They're still warm."

"A dog to play with and warm brownies?" Rose's smile was wide enough that it was almost unnatural, but she was obviously pleased, very much so. "That sounds brilliant, thanks. And I meant where it is, and all, obviously I haven't seen it yet. But it seems like a nice neighborhood and all. You've been here a couple years? By yourself?" It sounded lonely, really, Rose wasn't sure she could live alone after so long with all those dormmates at Hogwarts.

At the acceptance of her offer, Maisie walked towards the kitchen, sure to pay attention to what Rose was saying, but grabbing the plate of brownies, and offering it to the younger girl, “Yeah...I lived in a smaller place at first, no room for a flatmate, really. But when I saved up enough money, I moved in here, and I never really thought a whole lot about sharing it with anyone at first. I guess I just wanted that independent feeling. But it did get a bit lonely sometimes...that’s how I ended up with Lego. This place is really too big for just me, though,” she ignored Lego’s begging, knowing that chocolate wasn’t good for dogs. She’d find some appropriate treats for him in a little while, “Want to see what would be your room, if you decide to move in?”

Rose felt comfortable following her to the kitchen. She sat her purse down on the table and automatically started looking around for dog treats, not readily seeing any. "Oh, definitely!" She said with a smile as she took a brownie and took a bite, sighing appreciatively. "These are great! Definitely another point toward moving in with you. I love baking, but I love it when people do it for me too."

Giving a little laugh, Maisie smiled at the compliment. She put down the plate of brownies, opened the end cabinet that was stuffed with several cans of dog food and a few different kinds of treats, and tossed a few down to Lego who seemed appeased. She grabbed a brownie of her own and then motioned for Rose to follow her, “I enjoy cooking on most occasions,” she mentioned. It often felt a little pointless when she was there by herself, but she did like cooking, at least...when she wasn’t completely worn out.

She came to a door about half way down a small hallway, and turned the handle, pushing it open to reveal a decent sized bedroom that was outfitted obviously as a sort of guest room. It didn’t look well lived in, but it was still cozy with a bit of furniture and a day bed, “You can take or leave any of this, make it your own.”

"Oh, it's so pretty..." Rose liked the colour of the walls, and the way that the guest room had been set up. "And bigger than my room at home. I have furniture and things I could bring, I'm assuming my parents wouldn't mind my taking the things that have been mine."

She realized she was talking like Maisie had already decided absolutely to let her come in, and so stopped and looked shyly at the other girl. "You really don't mind my moving in? It might take a few weeks to get things set up with my parents, and get the money... how much is the rent?"

It was actually kind of nice to hear Rose talking about moving in, about what she might do with the room a little. It was almost comforting. She had been alone for so long there that the thought of a little company was very welcome. She smiled at her friend to reassure her.

Giving a little bit of a chuckle, Maisie shook her head, "I really don't mind. Like I said, I've been wanting a flatmate. Living by yourself is a bit overrated. You don't have to decide today or anything, but if you'd like the space, you're welcome to it," she said, completely sincere. She wouldn't mind splitting the rent, actually. It was sometimes a bit heavy to pay on her own, but she did it for the location, "Splitting the rent evenly, we'd both be paying about 200 pounds a month, which is actually a nice catch for this part of town and the size of the flat."

"Ooh, that's not too bad at all," Rose said with a smile, looking around. This could totally be her room - she was already imagining how she could redecorate so that it was really hers - things she'd do that her mum would never let her do to her room at home. "I mean, after I get a job and all. Which I'll definitely be doing soon!" She didn't want Maisie to think she was going to be a freeloader.

It hadn't really crossed her mind that Rose would ever be a freeloader. That just didn't seem to be her style. She thought things would work out well between them, "My advice on job hunting: get into something you're actually interested in. I wouldn't go into something just because it pays better than something else or whatnot. I chose the AMR Squad because of the heavy emphasis on Transfiguration and Charms, and I'm pretty happy there." She had lucked out, she guessed, with finding something that suited her so quickly. But then, she'd always kind of had that in the back of her mind. The only thing that Maisie had ever truly considered otherwise was training others to be animagus', but there wasn't a really high demand for that, or something that was exclusively Transfiguration. She wondered if she might eventually study to be a Professor, but she felt as though she was just too young for it now. She messed around a lot with transfiguration it on her own, and probably would have done splendidly well in a much more demanding, prestigious job, but she liked where she was just fine for now, "Any ideas or leads yet on what you might do?"

"Well, right now I'm just looking through the help wanteds in the Prophet every day, you know? I'm sure I'll find something. There are always shops that need girls for the counter, if nothing else, or something muggle..." But she couldn't see herself working a counter at M&S now that she'd been so long in the wizarding world. "Something will come up, though. I'm staying positive."
