Unless Alfie insisted, Maisie was certainly going to try to pay for her own meal. It wasn’t as though she didn’t have it, and she felt guilty accepting such a thing from Alfie when she knew he didn’t have the same high income. She had been happy to hear that he got a new job, and one that she knew he’d be really good at as well. Helping out in their grandfather’s grocery had paid off, it seemed. She always wanted good things for her siblings, so anything that made them happy was ace in her book.
Maisie perked up immediately when she saw Alfie, resisting the urge to get up out of her seat and pounce him. She had been known to set people off balance with hugs before. She just settled on looking terribly excited, grinning so widely that it almost hurt, “My hours are not actually that horrible. And I get loads of entertaining stories to tell as a result,” she teased, her blue eyes bright, “But I’m so glad we could get together. I’ve been missing you like crazy! It seems like it’s been ages since we got to do something like this.”
