Persuading the youngest (and most terrified) students to go was easy, but the older students, with the exception of one Zacharias Smith, were somewhat more of a challenge, small clusters trying to go off to the side to participate. Ernie gently nudged them all in, wand available but not used, noting that Audrey was doing the same, in her own way.
He watched his little sister go through without a word beyond what he was always saying: "Do what you're asked to do. Don't worry. It is going to be okay. They will get you to safety." It was repeated over and over, almost a mantra, until even the stragglers were well down the tunnel. Relieved with the conclusion of that duty, and hoping with everything he had that he was right, he turned to Audrey.
