Seamus, Sam, and Gryffindors
More than once Sam had to cut aside and hurry round in front of a student that fell behind or, most often, a younger year attempting to cut away from the pack with the intention of joining the fight. Personally, Sam didn't mind look the other way on the sixth years that were underage or even some of the fifth year, she was sure there were some that could hold their own or serve in the fight. Anyone that could help that wanted to, she felt, ought to be allowed to lend their wand. However she didn't believe for a moment that the adorable little second year she had to rear in front of to stop would manage anything other than getting herself killed.
When they reached the Room and started herding students in, Sam paced back and forth in the hall, protecting the entrance until every last Gryffindor was inside. She shifted back into her normal shape when she got in the tunnel, lighting her wand and encouraging the students around her to do the same. It hadn't occurred to her that she'd been anxious or nervous but now in the safety of the tunnel, at least for the moment, she felt a sense of relief. The feeling was quickly extinguished by the thought that anything, or anyone, could lay at the other end. It made her want to run ahead to the front to help Seamus but she knew her place was keeping the pack in line from the back.
