Who: Eloise Midgen & Ernie Macmillan
What: The return of the Hufflepuff escapees continues - Ernie finds Eloise in quite a bad state.
When: Wednesday, 19 May.  Late night, sometime after this. (Backdated)
Where: Hogwarts, near the greenhouses.
Rating: PG-13?

When Eloise opened her eyes, it was with the knowledge that all she could remember before this moment was brilliant, searing, relentless pain.  The sky was dark and clear above her, and there was a damp coolness under her hands and neck - the grass was dewy.  Her thoughts were a blur.  Mentally, she groped for something coherent but found she couldn't.

It was nearly a minute before she realized that her nerves no longer felt as though they were on fire.  There was still pain.  Lots of it, in fact.  More like an ache, now, interrupted periodically by sharp reminders of what she'd felt before.  Before...how long had she been here?

Eloise's eyes darted first to one side, then the other.  She tried to crane her neck, to move her head, but it hurt too much.  She didn't want to move.  The outer wall of a greenhouse was only a few feet away.  Her lips fely very dry.  She could feel her heart still pounding in her chest and could hear her breath coming quick.

Something was wrong.  She couldn't tell where she was.  She had to run.  But her legs felt all wrong, and her muscles screamed.  There was a noise, a low groan that grew sharply higher into a whine.  With a jolt, Eloise realized she had made it.

Ernie was on rounds - almost finished - when he walked by the greenhouses on route back to the castle. Wand lit, he scanned for anyone who was still out, but he wasn't expecting to find anyone - with the exception of giant spiders, patrolling the grounds was generally not a strenuous task.

But he did see someone. Lying on the ground and silent, Ernie had a flash of worry - was it a dead body? It wasn't such a stretch, given that there were Death Eaters in the castle, but he didn't think they were planning on killing anyone just yet. At any rate, he certainly hoped not, as he wasn't sure what the protocol would be for that.

Cautiously, he approached. His fears about it being dead were alleviated when he heard a noise - but he also knew that that noise sounded like pain. "Hello?" he asked into the night air. "Who's there? Are you alright?"

The unexpected presence of another voice startled Eloise, but physically it barely registered. Her limbs twitched sharply and she tried to shift her weight, though it didn't help much. It was hard for her to imagine that this wasn't a new threat. She managed to twist her head to the side and raised one of her arms heavily. These first movements, though painful, made Eloise think that she might be able to move after all. Just...slowly.

Squinting through the darkness, and noticing that her eyes were clouded over with tears, she made out a shape drawing nearer. The voice was familiar. And not for a bad reason. She didn't think so. She began to speak but found she had to clear her throat first.

"I-" Her throat felt so raw, and her voice was hoarse and quavering. Feeling utterly defenseless, she sought to make out the other's face. "No...I'm-"

As Ernie approached closer, the person tried to move, and then attempted to speak, managing just three quiet words, and Ernie knew instantly that she was severely hurt, although the awkwardly bent leg and copious amounts of what appeared to be blood illuminated by his wand could probably have told him that just as easily.

Moments later, Ernie was by her side, kneeling to help - when he recognised Eloise. "Eloise. It's Ernie. Don't try and move, it will make it worse," he said in a calm but firm voice.

At any other moment Eloise probably would have found Ernie's admonishment amusing. She had no idea what she looked like right now, but as she came to herself more each moment she knew it couldn't possibly be good. And the prospect of moving was not a happy one.

Talking wasn't something she particularly wanted to do, either, but Eloise was scared and the sound of her own voice, even broken, was somehow comforting. It let her know she was alive, at least.

"Don't - where..." She inclined her head just barely in a nod and drew a breath. "Where'm I?"

Ernie was worried, but given that Eloise was no longer trying to move (much) and that she was capable and willing to talk, he relaxed slightly, and answered her question. "You're back at Hogwarts. By the greenhouses, to be precise."

He reached toward his pocket, where often of late there had been a pain potion, but he didn't have one - hadn't expected to need it. Sighing slightly at the unfortunate luck, he said, "We should get you to Madam Pomfrey."

She gave another shallow nod, and it felt a bit easier than before. At the very least, Eloise was beginning to get her bearings. "Right." She wondered how Ernie planned to move her - levitate her, maybe.

Unsure of what to do, she winced as she attmepted to sit up. When that failed she settled for rolling a bit to the side. It hurt, but she was relieved to have managed it. Maybe things weren't as bad as they felt. Still, for perhaps the first time, Eloise actually wanted to go to the Hospital Wing.
