Who: Hermione and Ginny
What: Starting
Where: WWW: Hogsmeade Basement
When: Tonight
Rating/Warning: Plotty & Dangerous

She knew that in the cottage she'd left Harry and Ron, and most definitely Ron, were furious and fuming at her, but this, Hermione knew, was how it had to be done. It was the same as the day she had gone to obliviate her parents, erase herself from their memories - she didn't ask permission, she didn't even tell them what she was planning, because even though it was dangerous she knew that it had to happen. Ginny had to know, at least the things they had agreed she should know, and telling her was a bit they hadn't talked about. Owls weren't safe, though, and they couldn't be sure the journals were, so one of them had to go. And Hermione was the most expendable, now that they knew what the last of the hocrux were, she knew that even if the boys would never admit it.

She wasn't out to get herself caught, though. She used the last of their last batch of polyjuice and became Fleur, at least for long enough to get her to the WWW, and she used the wand Bill had brought her, because it couldn't be traced to her and because she had precious few other options. All in all, with the way that the twins had set up their wards on the shop, she was able to get in easily, and by the time the polyjuice was wearing off, she was in the basement, waiting for Ginny to come through the tunnel entrance.

Ginny had waited around for Sam, wanting to speak to her before she left, but in the end, she'd gone, unable to wait any longer. Making her way through the corridors, she'd had a couple of close calls, but managed to make it up to the Room, ducking in and starting down the tunnel towards Hogsmeade.

"Hermione?" she called, quietly as she came out of the tunnel, not sure who was up in her brothers' shop or who even knew about the passage. Hermione was there, waiting and Ginny crossed the basement, hugging her tightly for a long moment before pulling back, emotions dealt with for the time being. "What's going on?"

Hermione thought she'd be able to keep a strong face as Ginny came in, but the moment she saw her she was already going in to hug her, and she clung a few minutes longer than the old Hermione - the Hermione who went to school, who cared about grades and prefect duties and Hogsmead visits - ever would have. She had the horrible suspicious that she was going to cry, and had to push that away before she could really let her go, then she cleared her throat and sat down on a box of supplies that was there by the tunnel.

"I had to warn you about what's going to happen." She said finally.

The look on Hermione's face stilled Ginny's heart for a moment and she dropped to a box opposite the other girl. "What," she started, her voice choked until she coughed. "What's going to happen?"

Hermione was always serious, but Ginny knew her well enough to know that this time, it was for a good reason. She felt a little thrill skitter up her spine, a mixture of fear and anxiety, and clung to the box, waiting to hear her answer.

Hermione knew how much they had decided to tell her, but it was impossible not to say more than she meant to with Ginny looking at her that way - and the desire to make sure that no one died in their crossfire, Hermione wasn't sure she could live with that.

"Something's going to happen at Hogwarts. Harry has to ... well, we have to come back, there's something that has to be done there and Harry's the only one who can do it. But the moment we're there, He's sure to know."

Ginny nodded, glad she had sat down. She nodded again, unsure what else to say. "What can I do?" She asked, her heart in her throat. She tried as hard as she could to keep her mind on what Hermione was saying, even as it wanted to rush ahead and think of things that she needed to do.

Hermione was glad she hadn't asked more questions about what it was Harry had to come to Hogwarts to do, but she didn't think that luck would hold out, so she forged on. "There needs to be a plan to get the lower forms out of Hogwarts, and anyone else who won't demand to stay and fight. But they can't just start leaving now... or we'd be found out. We'll have to give you a signal and then they'd have to go right then."

"When are you planning on this?" she asked, leaning forwards slightly. "And what are you planning on doing?" Ginny stopped herself for a moment. "Anyone?" She echoed, dubiously. Surely Hermione didn't mean that. "Even Slytherins?"

"Soon," Hermione said, and that was as clear as she could be on a date. "This weekend, maybe, or next week. But that soon, or we'll miss our chance." She ignored the question about what they were planning on doing, hoping Ginny would take the hint that she couldn't answer it.

As for the Slytherins... "I don't know, Ginny. What do you think? Even Slytherins... I mean, the lower forms. No matter what house, we shouldn't have eleven year olds in the crossfire, but the chance of a sort of plan leaking out through them. You're right."

Ginny scooted back on the box, her brow furrowed. "Some of them can be trusted," she said, after a moment. "I think." She took another moment before ploughing on. No, she wasn't to tell. And no, it wasn't really hers to tell, but it was Hermione. "McGo - "

Stopping herself, Ginny peered across the gap between them. "Hang about," she started, slowly. "I should... how do I know you're really Hermione?" She cast about for something that only the other witch would know, feeling stupid that she'd only just realised. "What did Harry say to me? Before I ended up with Sam?"

"Maybe if there are some you could talk about they could have a different plan. Locking the lower forms in Slytherin somehow and keeping a guard over them there so that they're not in danger, or... " Hermione trailed off as Ginny questioned her, and her mouth pulled into a tight, disapproving sort of line that wouldn't have looked out of place on Profess McGonagall. "He said a lot of things to you, Ginny. The bit about.. not snogging? Is that what you meant? But most of that was the ... was what was going on at the moment, he's under a lot of stress, you know."

Holding her hands up, Ginny shrugged. "I had to check, Hermione." she said, apologetically. "McGonagall has a group, of some of the students, two from each house. Sam's one of them," she smiled, quickly, proudly, then forged on. "She's taught them to be Animagi."

Hermione blinked, for a second not really understanding, then her eyes went a little wider and something very close to jealousy crossed in them. "Really?" Yes, there was definitely some jealousy in that. If she'd been at Hogwarts, she was sure McGonagall would have chosen her.

"Yeah," Ginny nodded, catching the look on Hermione's face. "Sam's a weasel," she mentioned, before she could stop herself, even though she was sure Hermione didn't care. "The Slytherins are Millicent Bulstrode and wossname... Vaisey. They've used the Room several times to continue their lessons since the split. McGonagall trusts them, but I... don't know."

Hermione had to push the jealousy aside and get back to what was important. She knew they didn't have very much time to actually talk about this.

"Bullstrode I don't trust at all. She was in the Inquisitorial Squad. I don't know anything about Vaisey, but..." Hermione shook her head. "No, it would be too dangerous to have something like that slip out. Most of them should be safe enough, anyway, coming from their blood lines. I know that some of them were outed as muggleborn recently? But I don't know which ones, I haven't had enough time to pay attention.... You could warn them, but not until it's time to leave, so that they don't have time to use it against you. Or I suppose you could just warn all of them right before it happens, they wouldn't be able to stop it then anyway."

"I don't even know if they'd believe it coming from me." Ginny responded, then shook her head. She could deal with figuring out how to warn the Slytherins. "So you want me to deal with getting the younger kids out, and then...?" Whatever they had planned had to be big, they'd need help.
