Who: Lucy and Branwen
Where: Dormitory
When: Monday afternoon, following classes
What: Some serious secret time
Rating/Status: PG, Closed

Although the girls shared a dormitory Lucy did not, in fact, manage to tell Branwen anything the other night. Having already been in the dormitory at that time, before Branwen had been able to arrive, Lucy had fallen asleep. Now that she and Branwen were no longer in the same classes, seeing her best friend had become down right difficult when there wasn't a free period. So as the day was drawing to a close, Lucy gathered all of her things and practically raced her way toward her dormitory her fingers crossed that Branwen would be there.

Sure enough, as she came through the door, she spotted Branwen and let out a sigh of relief.

"This castle can be so big when I'm in a rush," she said, slightly out of breath. She managed a smile at her best friend as she dropped her books on her bed. Perching herself on the edge, she crossed her arms in front of her chest and took a slight breath.

"I've got a lot to tell you," her words slow and deliberate. "And I wish I had been able to tell you sooner, but I'm technically not allowed but at this point, I couldn't care what McGonagall says about it."

And although Lucy was generally a quiet girl, this was a long time coming.

Branwen may have been slightly disappointed that she and Lucy didn't have a chance to talk the night before, but you would never have known - she felt disappointed about most everything these days. But she was curious, and so, after her (disappointing) class, she went up to the dormitory in the hopes that she would meet Lucy there, and when she wasn't, Branwen proceeded to wait. As she had said before - it wasn't like there was anything else for her to do.

When Lucy arrived, Branwen smiled - a genuine sort of smile which was rare in the past week. She repositioned herself on her bed to face Lucy better, and nodded. "I'll never get used to the size of it," she affirmed, before quieting to hear what Lucy had to say.

Branwen raised her eyebrows slightly at Lucy's words, curious and puzzled. She nodded once, to indicate she knew this was a secret and would stay that way. "I promise not to tell a soul."

"I knew you would," Lucy replied, an small sigh of relief then following. She knew that Branwen was quite possibly one of the most trusting people she ever knew. It came with being a best friend, of course. But she was covering all of her bases. She knew even know she couldn't count on anything being the way it was before. She smiled at her before tucking a strand of hair behind her ears.

"I've been studying Animagi for a long time now," she continued, knowing full well that Branwen had been the first to know. "But after winter holiday, the Head- well, McGongall sent me a note asking me to meet with her. I was really nervous- I thought I did something wrong. But it turns out, she was just asking me to become a part of this, well, I'm still not sure what it is-"

She wasn't sure she'd even be able to find out what McGonagall's intentions were now.

"But there are eight of us, two from each House and we've been training with her all this time in Animagi. It's been this... quickened sort of study. I mean, I'm actually nearly there. We all are. And I think I know why she brought us all together for this."

Branwen nodded quietly while Lucy went over the history. She knew Lucy was training to be an Animagus, and the Headmistress (Branwen was unwilling to concede that point in her head) calling would make anyone worried. But as Lucy began to backtrack and stumble over her phrasing, Branwen felt a tiny rush of worry. Something without a purpose could hardly be safe.

It slowed though, when Lucy said they were learning to be Animagi. She knew that was what Lucy wanted - and if it was going more quickly, than that was brilliant. But it didn't stop the questions. "Who? No, you probably can't answer that. What are you going to be? McGonagall's teaching you? When were you expecting to change before, again?" She paused, then added, curious, "Why do you think?"

"If it weren't for McGonagall, I'm sure it would have taken me another six months, maybe longer before I was ready to change completely," Lucy said, the weight of her words really hitting her now. She had the professor to thank for pushing along her studies. This was something she had wanted for so long, it was strange to think it was actually happening. "I'm not entirely sure yet, what I'll be turning into. McGonagall says it has a lot to do with what your Patronus form is. I reckon' something like a deer, then."

She raked a hand through her hair, tugging the long tendrils to one side of her neck as she moved up higher on her bed. She took a slight breath before looking back to Branwen.

"I think McGonagall saw this coming- this takeover, or whatever you want to call it. I'd like to think she chose us to be able to do something about it. And Merlin, do I want to do something about it."

Branwen nodded slowly as she listened. "It makes sense, if your Patronus is a reflection of who you are, and you Animagus form is as well, that thy would be similar." She smiled. "So it's a good thing then."

Branwen pushed her book off to the side, repositioning herself slightly, absorbing Lucy's words. She nodded firmly, twice. "McGonagall's clever, and for all she doesn't believe in Divination, it was almost like she predicted this, if she was training you in something top secret like that."

She paused. "I know she'd want us to do something," she said with conviction, but lowering her voice. She didn't even think twice about telling - Lucy would probably find out for herself soon enough, at any rate. "Because - and I know you won't tell - in the classes I'm currently taking" - she made a face - "McGonagall is teaching us, and when the Ministry isn't watching, she'll teach us wandless magic."
