Who: Padma Patil, Justin Finch-Fletchley
When: Monday Afternoon
Where: The library.
What: Meeting up.
Rating: TBA
Open/Closed: Closed

Padma was not having a good week so far. Neither was anyone else at school, except a few of the pureblood fanatics, she supposed. But it wasn't easy being the first student authority, along with Ernie, at a school that was so deeply divided and largely antagonistic. There wasn't anything she could DO, and she had to try to remind people to remind rules that she hated to begin with, and it made her feel like the worst sort of heel, at best, and like a traitor at worst. She didn't really think people thought of her like that - or she hoped not, at least - but she just didn't really like it.

Not being able to see much of Justin didn't really help. They didn't share classes anymore, and she was worried about him. She was worried about a lot of people, but Justin held a special place. She didn't like him being singled out, or made defenseless by taking his wand away and replacing it with the barely-magical ones she'd seen the muggleborns have to use. It wasn't fair.

It had been a fairly dismal Monday, but she was looking forward to getting to at least see Justin this afternoon. As long as they didn't suddenly rule the library off limits. Which she wasn't ruling out happening, no matter how ridiculous that was. So far though, they were safe, and she hurried a bit after her last class, only stopping to talk to Parvati for a few minutes before she ducked into the library, looking around anxiously for Justin.

Justin's week wasn't going very well, either. He didn't have Padma's responsibility on his shoulders, not officially, but there was this rubbish of a second-rate wand and different classes and Justin always felt a pull to look after the younger years, whether he was officially charged with them or not.

No part of this was fair and Justin was worried about how much worse this could get. As bad as it was now, it was only likely to get worse. He didn't know what they would do when that happened.

He tried to push that out of his mind as he rushed to meet Padma, though. Maybe seeing her would be a good distraction. Either way, he was anxious to see her. He missed seeing her in classes.

As he ducked into the library and spotted her, he greeted her in a low whisper before gesturing further into the stacks, into a spot where they could hopefully have a little more privacy.

Padma looked up at the whispered greeting, flashing a quick, relieved smile. She'd been half worried that Justin wouldn't be able to meet her at all, that some new, ridiculous rule or limitation would be levied against the muggleborns and get in his way.

She picked up a book at random, just for something to have in her hands as an excuse, and followed him deeper into the stacks, biting her lip and managing to stay quiet until they were tucked away in one of the little-used sections where, hopefully, no one would notice them. Padma thought that, given the circumstances, Madame Pince might just have looked the other way anyway. She'd worked here a long time, Padma imagined she saw things more the way that Professor Mcgonagall and Dumbledore had.

She she the book on the nearest shelf and reached to squeeze Justin's hand. "How are you?" she asked, looking him over, just to be sure he didn't look like anything was wrong - aside from the obvious, at least. "It's really good to see you," she added quickly.

((No worries! Sinuses have been crazy for me, anyway.))

Justin had had similar worried, but he was relieved to find they had been unfounded. Or, if not unfounded, they had not come to pass. It seemed such a trivial thing to worry about right now, but there it was. As horrible as everything else was, he would have been extra disappointed had he not been able to see Padma.

"I'm alright," he assured her, returning the squeeze to her hand. He managed to smile at her, focusing on how nice it was to see her for a moment.

"You? How are you?" She really was a sight for sore eyes and his spirits lifted considerably, just having this moment.

"I'm fine. The new rules are driving me mad, and the rest of the Prefects, too. I expect they'll tell me that I'm dismissed as Head Girl at any moment and give the badge to Pansy Parkinson." Padma gave him a slight smile. "But it's nothing important or. . . it's not like you. I really am so sorry. For everything. It's unfair, and I wish I could do something to help. And that I didn't have to enforce ridiculous rules, but I just thought it was better that Ernie and I stay where we are, as long as possible. So at least we know all the Prefect and Professor's schedule."

It came out in a rush, and then Padma flushed a little. She hadn't meant to just blurt things, but she wasn't especially good at subtle lead up. And she didn't know how long they'd get to talk, either, she reasoned to herself.

"How are the classes? The ones they're making you take instead? Some of the D.A. were saying McGonagall was helping you with wandless magic?" Padma dropped her voice at the last, even though there was no one within airshot. Just in case.
