Who: Eloise Midgen and Susan Bones
What: Susan is recruiting for the DA, and needs to check Eloise's allegiances.
Where: Hufflepuff girls' dormitories
When: Late in the evening
Rating: Low

Eloise wasn't sure where Megan and Kinsey were.  Well, she knew they must be in the Common Room, possibly still playing one of the various games people had started up as the evening wore on and boredom grew.  Even though she was notoriously private with her feelings, Eloise really wanted to talk to them.  They were two of her closest friends, and if she was going to try and find a way out of the castle, she at least wanted them to know.  If Wayne was serious about what he'd written, she'd at the very least have his company, which was more than she could have hoped for.

But maybe, if she talked with the other two face to face, they'd at least see she wasn't just going insane.  Waking up to find herself unable to leave the Common Room this morning had made something inside of Eloise snap.  She'd been coping quite well with knowing her mother was in Azkaban - after all, there were other students who had much worse to deal with, and at least her mother was alive.  Regardless, the sight of Aurors and Ministry workers, corrupt no doubt, guarding the doorways had made Eloise angrier than she could ever remember feeling and, even worse, completely powerless.  She needed to get away from here.

Glad to find the dorm empty, Eloise had begun going through her trunks and personal affects, packing some things away in a large bag.  She had no intention of making a run for it tonight, but it wouldn't hurt to be prepared.  Just as she was taking a break from packing to change the food in her rats' cage, she heard the sounds of someone entering the room.  It was only Susan, but Eloise hoped this wouldn't look to strange - who would be planning a trip right now?

"Oh, Susan, hey," she said, smiling tightly and snapping the cage door shut.  "How's everyone doing down there?"

Things were less than easy to deal with at the moment, Susan could see it all around. Tension was so high she could cut it with a knife and stress was driving everyone mad. Susan mainly kept to herself throughout the day, she didn't mind being cooped up, the only thing she regretted was not making it down to the Greenhouses today to water the plants. She could only hope that Professor Sprout managed to go and water them. As students began to head to their respected dormitories, Susan looked at the aurors who hadn't made a sound since their arrival. They were intimidating, and a bit frightening - they certainly didn't look friendly.

Stifling a yawn, Susan gave a tiny smile to the third years who were sitting near her. Climbing out of the over stuffed couch in the common room, she began to climb the steps. Maybe tomorrow would bring about a better day? Maybe everyone was overreacting to something very small. While Susan longed to believe that, in the back of her mind it all seemed very doubtful. These weren't the events of something small, something was going on at Hogwarts and there was nothing that told Susan is was safe.

Opening the door to the seventh year girls dormitory, Susan was greeted with the sight of Eloise.... packing. Glancing at the packed trunk and then the rat cage and finally up at Eloise, a perplexed look came over her. "Hm? Oh. Well, I think they're finally going to sleep, it's been a stressful day and a lot of them are scared to go to sleep." Glancing at Eloise's trunk once more, head tilted to the side.

"Are you packing?" Frowning just slightly - not out of anger, but more out of concern, sharp green-blue eyes lifted to look back up at the girl in front of her.

Eloise just gave a slow nod in response to Susan's report from downstairs - there had been an odd energy down there all day, probably due to no one having a real outlet, and it had been making Eloise uncomfortable. She'd thought she might spend some time reading, enjoying the quiet, after she'd packed some things away. Maybe not so much, now.

She shrugged shallowly. "Ah."

Fleetingly, her eyes darted to the open bag on her bed. Suddenly she felt a bit silly. She didn't enjoy being found like this, especially by Susan. It wasn't that Eloise didn't like her. As a matter of fact, she quite admired her housemate. She had just never become especially close to Susan, and hadn't been planning to tell her of her intentions.

"Yeah, kind of? Not that I expect to be able to get anywhere any time soon, but I've been thinking if I see a chance I might take it." Eloise's brow creased, and she looked at Susan tentatively. "To get out of here altogether, you know?"

Susan frowned as Eloise explained herself. The two of them were never really that close, at least not as close as say Hannah was or even Ernie and Justin, but she spent practically seven years in the same dorm as her, that had to count for something, right? Those green-blue eyes flickered to look back up at Eloise as a look of concern washed over her face.

"Have you given much thought about the DA, Eloise?" Straight and to the point, Susan didn't want to beat around the bush and was almost positive that Eloise didn't want to hear some sugar coated coaxing at this time. "I know that you attended some meetings in the beginning, but then you stopped... and I was wondering if you were interested in coming back?" A tiny smile tugged on the corner of her lips, as she made her way over to the foot of her bed and took a seat on her trunk.

"I really wish you would stay, Eloise. At least here there are friends to help you, and try to keep you safe... there's the DA. I mean, things are starting to look a bit.... dodgy here, and I thought, well.... maybe, you might be interested in coming back? There's more powers in numbers, yeah?" Susan made sure to keep her voice low, ears staying tuned to the noise all around her to make sure no unwanted ears were near. Since her time in the DA, Susan learned how to be more cautious, and private. They taught her a good deal about multi-tasking and listening, talking, and watching all at the same time.... a skill she never thought she would need to learn.

For Eloise, things like being private and being watchful came naturally. She was much more an observer that a participant, and tended to struggle with the implications of sharing when it came to team-play. Though she wasn't selfish, there was no doubt the Eloise liked her space, liked to be able to do things her way, when she wanted to, regardless of whether others were on board.

But Susan had a point, as resistant as Eloise now was to the idea of staying at Hogwarts. How odd, that only last year she'd been fighting with her parents not to make her leave. There was no way she could have imagined this happening the way it did. She trusted Susan, though, and remembered the D.A. There had been that first meeting, it seemed like forever ago, when Potter had been trying to see who might want to join. Eloise had thought about it but ended up not signing her name to the sheet.

Sometimes, especially lately, Eloise wished she was less opposed to group activities. It kept her out of Quidditch, out of the D.A., and now she felt like there was no reason to stay anymore.

"I..." she began, faltering against her will. "I hadn't thought of it. I didn't even know it was still going." Eloise sat on the edge of her bed, face set. "It's...well, there's been absolutely nothing I can do while I'm here. I guess I've just been thinking that if I can get out now, before it gets even worse, maybe..." She wasn't sure what. Find her mother? Go home? Join her brother in Brazil?

"I don't even know. It just makes me sick to be here."
