Who: The Malfoy's
What: Dinner Out
Where: Hogsmeade
When: After yesterday's Quidditch game
Rating/Warning: TBA

Since his short conversation with Snape in the Shrieking Shack, Draco had been hyper aware of the walls closing in around the school - he knew that something was going to happen, he even had that vague doubling sense that he knew what that something might be, and that he had to be ready for it, but he wasn't. Leaving the school, even to spend time with his parents, might not have been the best idea. But they'd come to the game, and his mother had seemed so quick to jump on the idea that he'd actually been looking forward to it, which even surprised him.

The Headmistress couldn't do much to deny permission when both of his parents were there taking him away from the school themselves, so Draco found himself in the tacky pinkness of Madam Puddifoot's (choices in Hogsmeade were definitely limited), seated across from his parents. For the first time in weeks, ironically, he could let himself relax a bit.

It was more than Lucius had hoped for to be able to spend an evening with his family, when the proverbial sword always seemed to dangle so precariously overhead. He wasn't often especially glad to be away from home, but the public setting afforded some protection they couldn't have expected at the Manor (from unwelcome visitors and topics of conversation alike). The surroundings left quite a lot to be desired, but it did him rather a lot of good to see Narcissa actually excited about something, and to be able to turn his attention to trivial things - and he was even doing an excellent job, he thought, of pretending that he had never been inside Madam Puddifoot's before.

"All in all - very well done, my boy," he said, wrapping up some brief observations on the day's match. "Goyle has a vicious arm on him. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised."

As hesitant as she was to leave the Manor unattended by herself or Lucius, Narcissa felt refreshed being in different surroundings. She knew a majority of that had to do with being able to see her son. It always made her feel better to see him face to face. She could put her arms around him and embrace him (though she had trouble letting go), hear his voice, and those were both comforts unlike anything else.

She smiled with pride as Lucius spoke of the Quidditch match they'd just attended. "I'm so proud of you," she said. It felt so nice to be able to speak of things that didn't have to do with the darkness that had been surrounding their lives lately.

"Thank you," Draco said, a bit distractedly, to both of them, and he spent a moment looking out the window, then faced his parents again with something that was almost a smile.

"I think I'm enjoying the game more again, now that I handed over the Captaincy to Vaisey. Drawing plays and worrying about practises wasn't quite my cup of tea." Which hadn't been why he'd given it up, actually, but it was, at least, an explanation.

"It was his decision, I suppose, to put up Miss - is it Bulstrode?" It hardly mattered; the Miss was the operative word. It was one thing for grown women to make a career of knocking about on brooms - one assumed they were prepared to deal with the consequences - but a girl that age ... It was a bit embarrassing, really. "But so long as you're enjoying it, I suppose," he said lightly.

"Miss Greengrass is well, I hope." There was a connection there, he remembered. He rested his hand at the stem of his glass. He hardly knew anything about anyone named Vaisey.

It mattered little to her whether her son was captain of the team or not. As long as he was happy and enjoying himself, that was what truly mattered. If he did not want to do it, he didn't have to. After everything he'd been through recently, Narcissa was just glad he was able to enjoy the game at all.

At the mention of Miss Greengrass, she perked a little, her eyes shifting from her husband to her son. She was still a bit hesitant when it came to Draco being involved romantically with anyone, but that was only because she was so protective.

"Very well," Draco answered, and he knew he should want time alone with his father to ask the questions he should be asking about what was on the way, for Astoria and the others as much as for himself, but he couldn't drag himself to do it. Couldn't even make himself want to want to do it.

"She's looking forward to the summer. I thought perhaps we could take a longer holiday than usual, and have her with us. Her sister too, if she'd like, though she might be married by then."
