Who: Alfie and Julien
What: Julien visits an Injured Alfie
Where: Hospital Wing
When: Tonight
Rating/Warning: TBA, likely low

Madam Pomfrey had already fixed up his leg, but Alfie had never reacted well to mending bones - something that he'd had occasion to experience quite a few times, actually - and so she gave him a potion that made him just a little loopy and left him to a bed in the ward. She told him he could go back to Hufflepuff in the morning, which was just fine with him, he didn't want to be there while the team mourned another loss, really, so staying in Hospital for a night wasn't the worst thing that could happen.

Especially if Jules was coming up to see him. He wasn't sure about what he'd said in the journal, really, because he'd been a little out of it when he'd wrote to let his friends know he was okay, but he was glad that Julien was on his way up, glad he'd been at the game. If Hufflepuff had won, Alfie wouldn't have had anything not to be happy about, really, discounting the broken leg and the fact that he was still pretty sure that the world was about to go to hell, and he still hadn't talked to Weasley. Maybe tomorrow, when he was back in his own room.

Ever since he'd seen Alfie fall Julien had been in a panic. He hadn't been able to dive down onto the pitch to see him and then he'd been generally blocked at every turn, trying to see Julien but being scolded by the nurse while Alfie's leg was being fixed.

He'd paced back and forth in his bedroom until Alfie's note had popped up, at which point he'd leapt up and almost ran through the corridors until he got to the infirmary. He tried to slow himself down so that he didn't get kicked out for running through the place and made a line straight towards Alfie's bed, stopping without touching the boy, his fingers twitching like he wanted to climb up and cuddle and touch. "Alf..." he said in almost a whimper.

Alfie blinked open his eyes, and it was clear they were a little unfocused, but he smiled a loose, drunk sort of smile when he saw Julien too, propping himself up on his elbows. "Hey," he said easily, a little thick but not pained at all, really. He wasn't a stranger to broken bones, he didn't see a reason to be so terrified about it.

Julien was scared out of his mind for Alfie; he would have cared less if it had been him in that bed, but Alfie was really the most important thing in his world and to see him injured in the bed scared him.

He held his hand to his chest and squeezed it because he didn't know if he could hold Alfie's hand without hurting him. "Are you okay?" he asked, trying to sound calm but the tremor in his voice giving him away.

"S - sure," Alfie answered just as thickly, letting himself drop back in the bed and then nodding to the chair beside it, giving Julien what tried to be a smile, but was a little too loose for that. "Just a broken leg, it's fixed up already. See..." He bent his knee as if to prove it. "Just waiting for the .... potions to wear off, y'know?"

Julien almost fell into the chair and still couldn't touch Alfie. He couldn't look down at Alfie's once-broken leg, just stared at his face like it was a near death experience instead of a fall during a Quidditch match. "How do you feel?" he asked, all nerves.

"Woozy," Alfie said with a laugh, when Julien was sitting down he reached out and let his hand trail through the boy's hair, but that was all he could reach, and it had to fall back on the bed at his side. "'S really alright. I've broken it before."

Julien closed his eyes as Alfie petted him, taking a covert look around the room for Alfie's sake before reaching out and taking Alfie's hand in his. "You fell..." he started, but stopped, unwilling to carry on with that sentence because starting to talk about it made him feel more than a little sick. "I'm glad you're okay."

"Yeah," Alfie frowned. "We lost, I know. Not 'cause I fell, but couldn't have helped much." He was definitely more upset about losing the game than he was the broken leg. It meant that Hufflepuff wouldn't get a win at all this year.

Julien sighed heavily, a little raggedly, and smiled at Alfie, squeezing his hand comfortingly and trying to hide how fucking scared he'd been. "It wasn't your fault, you played as hard as you could until then." and he had issues with Greg, had plans for taking this incident up with him. Every time he thought about the other boy laughing as Alfie fell it made him see red.

"Yeah, but it was only like fifteen minutes or something," Alfie sighed, but then he shrugged. "It's Quidditch, you know, you expect to get hurt. I didn't even see who it was that knocked me out."

Julien shook his head. "Fifteen minutes or five, it doesn't matter, you still tried your best. And I saw who it was." he stopped talking there because he didn't want to freak Alfie out with his knowledge of swear words in all languages. He laced his fingers with Alfie's isntead. "I'm glad you're okay."

"Who?" Alfie didn't look upset, just curious. He liked to know who it was who got him in games, so he'd know to think about different tactics.... well, next year. Since Hufflepuff's season was over now.

"Goyle." Julien said, a mutter that wasn't any less vehement for how quiet it was. He eased up on Alfie's fingers with thought because he didn't want to add broken fingers to broken legs.

Broken legs, fuck...

"I'm sorry." he said suddenly, wracked with guilt over allowing this to have happened, for not being there sooner.

The name made something flash in Alfie's eyes that he tried to get rid of, something sick and also angry, but he shook it off. "Well, it's Quidditch. Happens, yeah?" He squeezed Julien's fingers again, then let his head fall back to the pillows.

Julien caught something flitter across Alfie's expression but it was gone so fast and left uncommented on that he didn't think to pursue it. Not then anyway; he filed it away into that part of his mind that kept hold of moments like these and brought them out in obscure times.

"Maybe..." he said grudgingly. "I still want to have words with him about it." Words and more.

Alfie's eyes went wide, and he sat up too quick and felt himself get a little dizzy, but he looked very serious when he looked at Julien. "No, don't do that."

Julien sat up a little himself as Alfie did but it was only to support him and try to lay him back down; he saw the panic flit there and the seriousness settle and he saw how woozy Alfie looked at the same time. "Lie down." he said, almost asking. "What's wrong? I'll just tell him to be careful next time, I won't get into trouble. Not that it wouldn't be worth it for you."

"No," Alfie shook off Julien's attempts to help him lay back down. "Look, don't, okay? Goyle's a menace, he'll ... do something. He's not rational, you know?"

Julien frowned at how upset Alfie was getting about this. "I don't care, he can't do anything to me that he won't get into trouble for and his wandwork isn't good enough for anything awful."

"Yes he can," Alfie sounded firm. "Look, Jules, don't, okay? It's just a game, and he'd pummel you. I don't want you talking to him."

Julien sat up a little from Alfie, studying the boy like there was something going on underneath here that he didn't know about but nodding reluctantly anyway, not wanting to upset his boyfriend when he'd just been through trauma enough. "Okay, I promise, I'll leave him alone. Okay?" Fuck he was worried.

That seemed to appease Alfie immediately, though, and he relaxed and slumped back down into the bed. "Okay. Yeah... okay. Just leave him alone. Don't want you hurt, or anything."

Julien didn't look very happy about that, although he did lift Alfie's hand to his mouth and kissed the back of it, not bothering to check that they were alone. He was just relieved Alfie was okay and was touched by the sweetness of that last remark. "I don't want you hurt either." he pointed out. "Is it unreasonable of me to want to wrap you up in cottonwool?"

"Cottonwool?" Alfie snorted, letting his head loll against the pillow to smile a little at Julien, still a little pained. "Do you think that would help?"

Julien didn't like the look of pain on Alfie's face and wished that he knew what charms wouldn't react badly with whatever Alfie had been given so that he could make the Hufflepuff a little more comfortable. "No, I don't." he admitted. "But at least I would be doing something."

"I wish I could do more then." he countered, but he wasn't being playful. There was an edge on his words that sounded like helplessness and tears.

"Don't.." Alfie reached up enough to slide his fingers into Julien's hair, and to hell with who saw, because Julien sounded like he might cry. "Jules, it's enough. You just wanting to be here with me, you know? You worrying when you don't need to. It's okay."
