Severus really didn't know why this accursed house was still standing; as far as he could tell, it no longer served any sort of purpose for the administration, and could only stand as a temptation for certain reckless students. He'd have been more than happy to see it razed. - But it was private, at least. When he found himself, a few minutes before midnight, once again in the familiar room full of cobwebs and rickety furniture, he tucked his wand away (against his better judgment, but - some gesture was surely required) and tried not to think of who might have made the ancient-looking tracks in the dust. No doubt someone had come in here since he last had. He leaned cautiously against one of the bedposts, and waited.
He didn't know what Minerva wanted to hear from him. There was only so much he had to tell, and thought he'd said most of it already. If she chose not to accept his explanation ... he might not blame her, really, but that was that. He'd brought along some other information as a good will gesture, and hoped it would be sufficient - the last thing he needed was to go spying for someone who wouldn't accept the intelligence.
He was actually looking forward to the meeting, he realized. It had been a long time since he'd been home, and it was nice to remember days when he had had time to care about how the Gryffindor Quidditch team was faring. (He still hoped they were doing wretchedly, of course, but his heart wasn't quite in it.)
